Today did not go well. The thunderbolt 1000 in Oak Park failed to activate. As it turns out, this was not an isolated issue. Oak Park and the surrounding communities had a system-wide siren failure. No sirens within our vicinity activated for the test today, other than Chicago. I called West Suburban Consolidated Dispatch (WSCD, the dispatch center where Oak Park's sirens are activated from) and they told me that there was a malfunction. This is the second time that WSCD has had a systemwide failure. Not only was this frustrating for my friends and I, this is a serious safety hazard. If there is an emergency in this area, WSCD may not be able to activate the sirens, resulting in easily preventable harm to people in several communities. I have faith that they will fix the problem soon, but in the meantime, I plan on contacting them regularly to stay updated on the situation.

To everyone who was at the test today, thank you for coming. I still had fun hanging out with all of you despite the siren's failure.
