Hey all. Sorry for the radio silence. Almost 2 weeks ago, I fell through my attic floor/ceiling into the room below and severely injured both of my legs. I have limited computer time these days since it can't fit in my crowded hospital room/bedroom and I still need 1 or 2 more surgeries depending on how severe the ligament damage is, so I'll be away for a bit. Honestly, I'm just grateful to have not died since I was only one wall away from falling 2 stories instead of just 1. In the meantime, I'll be replaying games on 3DS! If I get some more PC time later on, then of course I will return earlier. It's not like I have anything else to do but wait.

I'm back again with some small channel updates.

First, most of the linked playlists will be left unlisted from now on. Thanks to the unpredictability of copyright hounds, I think it is safer to shield some of the risky uploads from the search algorithm. This will make some games harder to find on my channel, but you are always welcome to save the playlists yourself or make your own.

Second, I decided to unlink my Patreon. I don't write enough these days to justify asking money from people. Thanks to those of you who read the reviews and articles over the past couple years.

Finally, I still have a strike on the channel, so about 500 videos are still privated for the moment. Once it expires, I'll return most of the music to the playlists.

Just wanted to let everyone know that my punishment time is almost over. I should be back in around 2 weeks. In the meantime, I've been playing one of my favorite visual novels in a long time, The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy. It's soooooooo good! Just wanted to let people know there have been more takedowns from Muso, a Nintendo-hired watchdog. This time was from Breath of the Wild. In general, if it's on the Nintendo Music App, you can assume it won't stay public on my channel or on YouTube for long.

Well, this is both good and bad news. The good is that we finally have a way to stream most of Nintendo's classic and current soundtracks without breaking copyright. The bad is that this might spell trouble for many, many video game music channels including mine. I'm not sure what to do right now, but I'll keep my eyes and ears open to how other channels are reacting. Fingers crossed that this leads to no problems!

Update on the Mario Takedowns: it seems other VGM channels are getting struck for their Zelda videos by MUSO TNT LTD, so I have temporarily taken down my entries as well. I'll leave up the most recent video. It seems like Nintendo is probably gearing up for an announcement of some sort. Hopefully, it's the release of some good news (their music on streaming sites), but knowing how past takedowns have occurred, it's likely because one of the upcoming releases uses music from those games, and Nintendo is mistakenly thinking the games' music was leaked. I remember many channels getting deleted once Smash Ultimate's soundtrack leaked out almost 3 weeks early. I try not to post music until a decent amount of time has passed from the release date (excluding remasters), so hopefully I'm unaffected. I'll keep you updated if anything changes. If you can believe it, I've already made the video for VGM 1300, the next Centennial special. It was a moment of inspiration. At the time I'm writing this, there are still 75 entries to go before that point, but I just wanted to pat myself on the back since these are much harder to make than normal videos. I'm gonna guess it will be released between March and May 2025. If you want a hint, it was popular on TikTok three years ago!

2 weeks ago, I posted that a company was taking down some Super Mario videos with their music in it. This week, I received a takedown notice from Nintendo themselves about Link's Awakening (specifically the original Game Boy videos only). On one hand, that's sad news. On the other hand, it might mean that the upcoming Zelda game uses music from Link's Awakening. Anyway, I'll keep you updated if anything else changes.

Looks like Nintendo has hired MUSO TNT LTD, a notorious copyright-striking company, to remove any Mario videos that use music from Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Bros. 3. I have temporarily taken down all the Super Mario videos for now. Normally, I appeal the claimants directly and win about 80% of the time, but I know this company isn't worth disputing. Just wanted to give an update on where all the Mario videos went, and hopefully the trouble goes away in a few months.
