But right now, there are so many disciplines that you have to learn in order to make even a small game and learning EACH of those to do exceptionally well has taken some years. And a huge part of me wants to say that I can't do it. But looking back at the role models I have in the game dev industry, I understand this.
It is important to understand that learning things is going to take time...a long time. But it's more about the journey and not the destination, and so long as you walk at your own pace and have good people to walk with, you will look back and see how far you've come.
So here I start my journey, crawling and with no one yet to walk with.
For context, I'm composing a music track right now and I see all these different plugins that cost around 20$ to 400$. But I don't have all that money to buy a plugin, and even if that were the case, that money would be better spent on food and utilities where I come from(I live in a third world country). I've been playing around with the SGM soundfont lately and I frickin' love it. You can have a file that is less than 1 GB of storage and comes with all the sound files that I would find in a keyboard. It's amazing. And there are other .sf2 files that are similar. And it's FREE. I know it's more of a hand-me-down but having such high quality sounds out for free is just really rad.
It amazes me and will amaze you how much high quality software you can find for free. You just have to dig down a rabbit hole to find it.
