DeROK LIGHTS UP LAGOS CAMP AS PLATOON 10 WINS DANCE HALL COMPETITION
The 2025 Batch C Orientation Course recorded a vibrant evening as DeROK, sponsor of the Camp Dance Hall Competition, hosted an electrifying dance showcase for all ten platoons. The competition segment was powered by DJ Uzzy who played for the competing platoons, before celebrity guest performer DJ EXclusive thrilled the audience with a standout performance.
Declaring the event open, the Lagos State Coordinator, Mrs. Christiana Salmwang reminded Corps members that the orientation experience goes beyond drills and lectures, encouraging them to enjoy moments that build camaraderie and help them unwind.
Performances were judged by a panel led by Chief Judge, Mr. Ekah Solomon, based on originality, style, technique, posture, timing, teamwork and stage presence, with guest artistes Odifits and Mr. Koller thrilling the audience.
At the end of the competition, Platoon 10 emerged winner while Platoon 5 and Platoon 6 came first and second runner-up, respectively. The event was anchored by MC Natt, Ene and Omotee.
Speaking at the event, DeROK’s representative, Mr. Muritala Abdullahi, Assistant Brand Manager urged Corps members to uphold good conduct throughout their service year and act responsibly at all times.
The NYSC Lagos Orientation Camp, Iyana-Ipaja, has commenced its Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme for the 2025 Batch C Corps Members, introducing intensive training to promote self-reliance in today’s competitive economy.
Delivering the SAED Director’s address, the State Coordinator, Mrs. Christiana Salmwang encouraged Corps Members to take the training seriously, noting that formal job opportunities are limited and practical skills are increasingly essential. She added that the SAED platform provides access to grants, internships and interest-free loans through partner institutions.
The Head of SAED, Lagos State, Mrs. Itohan Ehinwema, underscored the programme’s importance and applauded major supporters, including Mrs. Tara Fela-Durotoye of House of Tara, Dr. Mary Charles of Twinkul Beauty Academy and Mr. Femi Aluko, CEO of Chowdeck.
In her address, Mrs. Fela-Durotoye urged Corps Members to take responsibility for shaping their future through continuous self-development and belief in their abilities.
Similarly, the CEO of Chowdeck Mr. Femi Aluko encouraged the youths to pursue excellence and take bold, intentional steps that advance both personal growth and national development while sharing his personal growth story to success. @christianasalmwang
STATE COORDINATOR FLAGS OFF SPORTING ACTIVITIES IN LAGOS CAMP: 2025 BATCH C
The State Coordinator, Mrs Christiana Salmwang, has officially flagged off the 2025 Batch C sporting activities at the Iyana Ipaja camp. In her opening remarks, she encouraged Corps members to participate actively, embrace healthy competition and uphold unity.
She noted that the NYSC cares not only about their mental wellbeing but also their physical health. The games, she said were designed to help everyone relax and ease off stress.She warned against hard tackles that could result in injuries. The aim, she reemphasized is to have fun and unwind.
The event kicked off with a football match between Platoon 9 and Platoon 6 ,where both teams delivered a tense first half, each scoring from the penalty spot to end 1–1. The second half came with more energy,substitutions, free kick attempts and a few yellow cards but no decisive goal. The match went into penalties, where Platoon 6 clinched a 3–2 victory.
Meanwhile the volleyball competition had 14 female players from Platoons 6 and 9. Platoon 6 dominated the court, winning two out of three sets.
The final event of the day was a badminton match between Platoons 6 and 9, ending in a 2–1 win for Platoon 9.
Day 7 at NYSC Lagos features another round of impactful activities, including a comprehensive security lecture, a sensitization session on the National Identity Card Management and the official Skills Acquis and Enterprenuial Development (SAED) flag-off.
These engagements are designed to equip Corps Members with essential knowledge and practical skills that will help them stay secure, make informed decisions and successfully navigate life during and beyond the service year.
