Welcome to my collection of retro megamixes (along with the occasional remix and other odds 'n' ends). Growing up in Canada listening to 80s and 90s music, it was a huge kick to hear mixes that combined the hit songs of the day into one continuous, non-stop stream of awesomeness. As an adult, I now get to create megamixes of my own, using both classic songs of the era and forgotten gems that deserve a second listen. Enjoy!

COMING THIS WEEKEND....THAT'S SO 80s MEGAMIX VOL. 20!!!
Assuming the YouTube gods are merciful, I'll have a brand-new all-80s DJ mix uploaded in just a few days. This one features two solid hours of 80s gems spanning the entire decade, including several songs making their Muffin Phatz debuts, along with songs that previously only appeared in mixes YouTube banished years ago and a few personal faves.
A big 'THANK YOU!' to those subscribers who've stuck with me even though my output hasn't been as frequent as usual. Hoping to churn out a few more mixes this year.

After YouTube blocked my latest 90s mix a few weeks ago, it's been mysteriously unblocked for reasons they've never bothered to explain to me. Same ol' bullshit. Lol. Since I assume this is temporary, please feel free to check it out and even download it for your personal pleasure before they inevitably block it again.

UPDATE RE: THAT'S SO 80s MEGAMIX VOL 19
Long story short: after a couple of blissful days of uninterrupted access, YouTube finally got around to slapping their usual bullshit automatic blocks on most of this mix's songs. I've just submitted disputes for each of those tunes, so it's now available for listening again. ZERO idea for how long, though...as I've complained about here many, many times, most of my mixes have a pretty short shelf life on YT.
Soooo...if you want to keep enjoying this latest one, I strongly advise you to download a copy of your own (there's lots of info available online to help you save a YouTube clip as either a video or audio file) or save this link to listen to it on my Mixcloud account:

I was shocked to discover while at work today that the brand-new mix I uploaded on the weekend, the same one YouTube blocked 12 hours later, is now available again! I have NO idea why...I never even bothered to appeal their block due to the historically low probability of it making any difference. But here we are.
If you have any interest in checking it out here on YT, don't put it off because there's every chance that they'll block it again in the next couple of hours, couple of days...couple of years? You honestly can't tell with these folks. They've blocked every other volume in my 90s Clubbin' series, so I have no faith that this unrestricted access is anything but temporary. Just make sure to keep Mixcloud in mind if or when (almost certainly when) they block it again here on YT; they never block ANYTHING of mine over at MC.
Hope you enjoy it! It sure would be nice if people actually got to listen to it on YouTube.

I know some of you visit my page only looking for 80s music, but many of the songs here are from 1990, which is 80s-adjacent, right? Just close your eyes, and you'll swear it's 1989. Lol. Honestly, there's lots of great stuff on this mix. In fact, it’s so damn good, YouTube has already blocked it! But fret not, my babies. Mixcloud’s got our backs - see link above. After its first full day on that streaming service, it’s already #6 on their Canadian Pop Trending Chart. Full of Pop, House and New Jack Swing faves from the era, it’s good for whatever’s ailin’ ya...unless it’s a serious medical condition, in which case you should probably see a doctor. Get your retro groove on today!
Side note: YouTube is being extra-dickish right now by not letting you simply click on that link to connect to the mix, so make sure to copy-n-paste it in your web browser instead. Seriously, the powers-that-be at YouTube are being total assholes lately...I mean, even more than usual.
P.S. Working on a new all-80s mix right now too. Got 80 minutes of it already edited together; just need to add a few more tracks to give you the pumpin' plus-sized set you all deserve. Look for it before the end of summer...at which point YouTube will almost certainly block it within days or even hours!

**NEW 80s MIX ALERT!!** He is risen, and so am I! ;-)
Just in time for Easter, I've just uploaded a brand-new 80s DJ mix right here on YouTube featuring an eclectic crop of tunes from the entire decade, edited together as smooth as silk just the way you like it. There's a little bit of everything here: Pop, R&B, Freestyle, House, New Wave, even a little Rock to kick things off. It's a real hodge-podge of 80s awesomeness with no real theme holding these songs together besides the decade they originate from, but it's got a good beat and you can dance to it. Lol. Here, you'll find another huge helping of 90s dancefloor goodness: 2 1/2 hours of pipin' hot dance tracks from the likes of Janet Jackson. Tayor Dayne, Reel II Real, Faithless and so many more. It's a steamy mix of certified club classics, underground faves and forgotten gems, all smoothly edited together just the way you like 'em! Hope you enjoy!
As you may have noticed, I've been taking a break from mixing 80s tunes in favour of revisiting my post-university 20s and the music that helped shape those years. Those 90s dance beats are generally easier to edit together compared to the variety of tempos from 80s pop tunes, so these mixes tend to involve less work. But it's not the only reason I've been focusing more of my attention on this latter decade lately: frankly, the increase in copyright blocks YouTube has been slapping on most of my mixes has sucked most of the fun of posting here. I felt like I was building a great library of retro DJ mixes that could be enjoyed by the widest audience possible, only to watch it chipped away little by little over time. It's been such a drag, I can't even put it into words.
That said, my goal is to crank out a couple new 80s mixes in the coming weeks, and I may even tempt the YT gods by trying to post at least one of them here. Stay tuned!

HAPPY BELATED NEW YEAR, MY LOVELY SUBSCRIBERS!
Hope 2024 is finding everybody healthy and in good spirits so far. Just thought I'd share a few thoughts on my plans for this year, mix-wise...
As I've shared many, many times in previous posts, YouTube is becoming nearly impossible to deal with in regards to posting mixes without blocks. As such, I'm very hesitant to upload anything new here since roughly 75-80% of them become unavailable within days. I have no plans to shut down this account in the forseeable future since there remains at least a few mixes available for folks to enjoy, but moving forward MixCloud will continue to be where all new mixes can be found.
Even on MixCloud, it's getting a little tricker to navigate. Their free acounts are now limited to 10 uploads each, requiring me to open multiple accounts to keep everything in my growing catalogue available. While I appreciate every single penny that some of you have generously donated via Paypal, there's simply not enough revenue coming in to justify paying for a Premium account. After all, these mixes remain a hobby of mine. A greatly beloved hobby, mind you, but not one on which I can devote enough time to make it a genuine source of income.
On that note, I've started to organize my MixCloud accounts a little differently. Today, I created an all-90s account to seperate my 90s setlists and give them their own home while freeing up a little space on the existing 80s accounts. As for upcoming projects, I've got more volumes of THAT'S SO '89 in the pipeline, as well as the usual assortment of 80s and 90s mixes. Plus: having finally completed my all-Prince trilogy last year, I now have my sights set on paying homage to the Queen of Pop herself, Madonna! Since Madge's music doesn't get blocked here, you can expect her DJ mix to appear on YouTube when it's ready later this year. Beyond that, it's going to be a wait-and-see approach when it comes to uploading anything else new here. That said, rest assured that you'll get a reminder here whenever I post new mixes over on MixCloud.

**NEW MIXES ALERT!!**
1.) Somehow I managed to get one of my many past mixes unblocked here on YouTube, namely THAT'S SO 80s Vol. 14. Featuring 95 minutes' worth of early 80s favourites, it boasts the likes of Irene Cara, Olivia Newton-John, The Police, Eddy Grant, Prince and so much more. Only problem? 2.) Speaking of Prince, the third giant-sized volume in my all-Prince trilogy of mixes is finally available! For those hungry to relive the late 90s, I recently shared a 2 hour mix of popular tunes from 1995-2001 as a musical tribute to my years working at Future Shop, i.e. the now-defunct Canadian electronics retailer. As a member (and eventual manager) of their music department, I got to spend my workdays surrounded my music, which was a dream come true. **MIX TAKEDOWN ALERT!!** You guessed it...my latest mix (i.e. THAT'S SO 80s MEGAMIX V17) is going to be forcibly removed by YouTube in the coming days. No way to appeal this move, so for anybody wanting to download this mix directly from YT make sure to do so before Oct/21/2023.
Aside from an upcoming all-Prince mix (the third and final volume in the series) which I'm reasonably confident won't get messed with based on my positive past experiences with the late singer's estate, I won't be uploading new mixes here again any time soon. Just not worth the effort and disappointment. Mixing is a beloved hobby that brings me great joy, and having you beautiful people share in that pleasure means the world to me. That said, dealing with YouTube's bullshit is taking away much of that pleasure, so once again I'm going to take a break from those headaches.
Rest assured, this YouTube account will stay open and accessible for as long as YT allows any of my mixes to remain unblocked, and I will continue to share news here about any new mixes coming down the road, whether they'll be uploaded here or become Mixcloud exclusives.
