"Silicon Dar" is the name of #Tanzania's first and Africa's first naturally formed technology district located in the commercial capital of Dar es Salaam.
This emerging tech hub is situated along a stretch of Ali Hassan Mwinyi Road, between the Bamaga bus stand and the Morocco Road junction. The area has naturally become a cluster for various tech-related entities, mirroring the organic growth that formed the original Silicon Valley.

Key Components of Silicon Dar
The district is home to a diverse ecosystem of telecommunications companies, innovation hubs, educational institutions, and government bodies:

Telecom Providers: Headquarters for major telecom operators in Tanzania, including Vodacom, Tigo, Airtel Tanzania, Halotel, TTCL, and Zantel.
Government & Academic Institutions: The Commission for Science and Technology Tanzania (COSTECH), the University of Dar es Salaam College of ICT, and the TTCL national data center are located within this area.

Innovation Hubs & Startups: The area hosts various innovation spaces and business incubators, which provide support, mentorship, and resources to entrepreneurs and startups. Notable examples include:
Buni Innovation Hub, the first innovation space established in Tanzania.

Seedspace Dar es Salaam, a coworking area and entrepreneur community hub.
Sahara Ventures, an organisation focused on building the African innovation ecosystem and one of the key proponents of the "Silicon Dar" initiative.

Apps & Girls, a social enterprise bridging the tech gender gap by providing coding training to girls.
The initiative aims to promote and support the growing technology and entrepreneurship ecosystem in the region, positioning Dar es Salaam as a leading tech hub in Africa.
