Acolytes of Horror

How do you adapt a found footage classic for the stage? The new Paranormal Activity play finds thrilling answers, and the ways it falls into cliche perhaps reveals more about artistic gatekeepers' latent distrust of horror as legitimate art than the limitations of theater's ability to disturb.

Making a video about 2000s "torture porn" horror films. What's not on my list here that should be! Try to limit things to 2003-2011ish, unless there's just something HUGE I'm overlooking.

(Yes, I know some of these movies qualify more than others.)

Wicked: For Good has pretty much the same pros and cons as the first, and a bizarrely cynical ending that undermines its simple moral message of friendship over bigotry. Full review here:

The Running Man is an endlessly charming dash through an America that has rotted into a festering pit of resentment and cruelty. Edgar Wright finds the turbo button in bursts, and even in the places where the pace lags, there's always another colorful blast of emotion or surprising detail right around the corner. Overall, I really dug it!

Shared A LOT of thoughts about The Sandman Season 2 on my Nathan Now channel. A joyless fantasy without color, movement, or emotion.

There is a black hole where my appreciation of 70s animation should be, and this analysis of some of its highlights not only gave me some new films to seek out — I MUST see Hugo the Hippo IMMEDIATELY wow I mean HIPPOS VS SHARKS?!?! — but also dove into some of my favorites like Fantastic Planet, all with an engaging personality and meticulously spirited editing that dwarfs the output of many far larger channels

Made a new Nathan Now video about Damien Leone's efforts to de-politicize Terrifier, a horror franchise that embodies Trumpism more than any other.
