This fight is really a story about youth vs experience. Mike's real hope of winning is to get an early KO between rounds 1-4. After that, it's a young man's game and his age will show; especially if he's taking damage throughout those rounds.
Jake's path to victory has to come in the form of being patient and picking his shots, staying out of the way of Mike's big punches for as long as he can, keeping him on the outside with jabs, and avoid getting himself trapped in a corner, because even at 58, Mike can still crack.
If it's not a complete WWE clown show, I truly expect it to be a hug fest on behalf of Jake. He'll just run around and pot shot Mike, and if Mike gets too close, Jake will lock up with him.
Jake has some really bad habits that I believe Mike will have an easy time exploiting:
1. He often is looking straight down when he throws his signature overhand right; he loses all line of sight doing that, leaving him exposed to a number of punches. 2. Jake often drops his hands when he's throwing jabs and hooks; easy to counter for an experienced boxer. 3. Even though he's improved a bit, Jake often crosses his feet when he's moving around the ring. This is makes it easy to throw him off balance at the beginning of a combination. 4. Jake doesn't do well under pressure as we saw at the end of round 1 in his fight with Tommy Fury. Jake covered up and backed away, almost panicked, to avoid getting hit, and Tommy landed some clean punches during that exchange.
At the end of the day, Mike is 58 years old. Those of us that got to watch Iron Mike Tyson knock the heads off his opponents, are hoping we can get just 3 good rounds of that man, and knock Jake's head clean off. Here's to hoping he can do that.
1. Jake has never fought at heavyweight ever in his life. 2. Majority of Jake's previous opponents were smaller than him, far below his weight class, and weren't professional boxers. 3. The one pro boxer he fought who was also his weight, beat him with ease. 4. Jake's only advantages (age, height/reach and recent activity) would only play a factor if Jake was a world class boxer. He is not. 5. Jake has been boxing for only 4 years. Versus 50+ years of experience.
I understand that Mike is old, and a fight is different than sparring. That granted, we aren't talking about Mike Tyson going up against Anthony Joshua or Andy Ruiz. Jake is an amateur at best, and this would be his hardest test. And he chose to do it with a retired Mike Tyson. There are literally active fighters who won't even spar with him because they're afraid of getting hurt.
Either Jake is completely delusional, the fight is fixed, or Jake has some hidden skillset we haven't seen yet.
I'll genuinely be surprised if he makes it past 4 rounds. βπΎ Not an official prediction, but we're talking about boxing here.
