Great News! 🎉 My art community now has a new name: Drawing Nature. I've decided to use it because of its beautiful triple meaning and I'd love to tell you about them.
#1. Drawing as mark-making on surfaces
"Drawing nature" can refer to the act of sketching, drawing, and painting elements of a landscape, or different species of plants and animals, regardless of how much realism you want to use.
It's what we do when we want to create an image from something we see in the natural world.
#2. Drawing inspiration from nature
It can also mean creating art inspired by natural forms, whether you're working with nature's structures and geometry or its organic shapes.
It's what we do when we understand (or absorb) the design of something we see in the natural world and apply that knowledge to fields like illustration, architecture, graphic design, textile design, and more.
#3. Exploring the nature of drawing
Finally, it means we'll also explore what a drawing actually is (and what a sketch, a pattern, or an abstraction really means).
What are we doing when we sketch something, or when we simplify a form from nature to use in a design project?
Drawing can be the act of capturing what you see and putting it on paper as a way to understand or document reality. However, it's also the act of planning and designing what only you see in your mind, and making it visible to others.
I hope this new name resonates with you, and that we'll have amazing conversations about drawing and nature on the community page, which now has its own domain:
DrawingNature.ART/ 🌿
I'd love to know which of these meanings resonates most with you.

There’s a lot happening here right now, and editing has been difficult. We’re entering our third day without power. Thank you for your patience, and I’m sorry for being quiet lately.

The year started full of surprises. My grandmother (99) fell and broke three ribs, and at the same time my mom (77) broke her arm. Video releases were put on hold until I got back home, and now I need to reassess my schedule.
I’m sorry I couldn’t finish a video for today, Saturday, as I usually do. The next one will be published as soon as it’s ready. Click the notification bell to be notified when it goes live.
In the photo: the first sketch of my next series, Solitude.
I think solitude has always been present in my work and is partly what I was looking for when we moved to an isolated rural area. Now I want to explore how to visually represent solitude without being too obvious. There will be videos about this soon.

I’m opening 5 spots for individual art sessions. These sessions are focused on conversation, looking at your work, and talking about process.
We can talk about drawing, painting, art materials, visual language, choices, and direction. This felt like a natural extension of the conversations and exchanges that already happen here.
They’re for artists who already work with drawing or painting and feel the need for an external eye, or feel a bit stuck or scattered, and want some direction in their work.
Each session is one hour, online, and it can be in English or Brazilian Portuguese.
I offer single sessions, but I especially recommend a small package for those who want continuity.
If this resonates with you, send an email to studio@liacaldas.art , and I’ll share the details.

This week, the video will go live tomorrow, Friday, instead of Saturday. January 9th is the anniversary of my YouTube account, and it felt like the perfect day for a milestone celebration video. See you tomorrow! 🙂

✨ A Small Gift to Help You Plan the New Year ✨
I've created a Habit Tracker / Annual Planner for 2026 for my own personal use and decided to share it with my Patreon community and newsletter subscribers.
If you haven't received yours yet, you can subscribe for FREE to Letters from The Forest [ newsletter.liacaldas.art/ ] or join me on Patreon [ www.patreon.com/posts/small-gift-to-147098155 ] to download it.
There are two versions. Both options have the weekends colored in light gray, so you can easily see which day of the week it is.
Habit Tracker 01 has all the months aligned by the first day of each month. It’s a single block with the whole year, plus a space at the top for a title and some lines below for notes.
Habit Tracker 02 has all the weekends aligned in columns. It might feel a bit strange at first, but this layout can be useful depending on how you plan your activities. It also has space at the top for a title.
Let me know which design you prefer (you can download both) and whether you find an annual habit tracker or planner useful. 😉
I hope you have a wonderful New Year’s Eve, and I wish you success with all your plans and intentions for 2026! 🙌✨
From the heart of my forest studio,
Lia 🌿
