This channel is dedicated to my favorite musician Masabumi "Poo" Kikuchi. My objective is to upload obscure and/or out of print recordings (with a main focus on him and other Japanese jazz musicians) which would otherwise be unknown, difficult, or impossible to access for most. Many are from my personal collection. Please enjoy.

Poo Lives
tonight at midnight (jan 25, gmt-8), "after hours" by masabumi kikuchi will be available. this is a beautiful and intimate solo set of standards and one original recorded live in 1994 tokyo. i generally haven't been posting albums which have already been uploaded to youtube by others, which is why i've never shared this one before. however, i noticed that the existing version is only 480p quality, so i decided to mirror this here in hd. enjoy.

Poo Lives
tonight at midnight (california time/gmt-8), the album "scene" by masahiko togashi will be available on my channel. this is another one of his incredible solo percussion albums, recorded in 1987. togashi's solo performances have been a huge influence and inspiration to me as a musician, so i'm excited to be able to share this one. i believe someone requested this album in a comment some time ago. i finally got my hands on a copy of it in 2021. enjoy!

Poo Lives
hello! this is michael, creator of poo lives. i haven't been very active here for a few years, but i wanted to come in and give a little update. when i first decided to start this channel it was because of my love for japanese jazz/avant garde music, and how many of these albums were out of print and near impossible to find either physically or digitally (at least here in the u.s.). my wish was that this lost music that i loved would not die, but instead be able to continue living in some way and be shared with others. many of the albums i've uploaded are from my personal collection which i've scoured the internet for and imported from japan at great expense over the years. some albums i searched for for years before getting lucky enough to find a copy for sale. i never imagined that this humble channel would eventually gain over 1200 subscribers and amass almost 300,000 total views. it makes me very happy to know that people all over the world are enjoying and appreciating this music. though this is certainly a very small niche community, i wanted to thank everyone who has shown their support, subscribing, listening, and commenting. some of you may be familiar with the story of how, following the death of charlie "bird" parker, graffiti appeared around new york city saying "bird lives!" of course, bird's legacy and influence is unquestionable. well, personally i feel the same way about masabumi "poo" kikuchi, to whom this channel is dedicated to. it is my own small way of declaring that "poo lives!"
in the coming days i will have a few new albums to upload including works by masahiko togashi and masabumi kikuchi, so stay tuned. wishing you all peace and hope. thank you.
