YouTube Changed the Meaning of a View — Here’s My Take
I actually think this change is more interesting than controversial.

For years, we’ve treated “views” as if they were a universal currency. They’re not. A view is simply one data point in a much bigger story.

What matters to me is not whether YouTube makes that number easier to reach. What matters is what happens after someone clicks.

Did the video make them stop scrolling?
Did it make them curious?
Did they watch until the end?
Did they come back for another video?
Did they subscribe?
Did they share it with someone?

That is where the real value of content lives.
I also think creators sometimes become too obsessed with defending the purity of a number instead of focusing on the quality of the work behind it. If the new system changes the public view count, fine. Let the number change.

I’m more interested in whether the audience is growing, not whether the counter looks impressive.

Because at the end of the day, you can manufacture impressions, optimize thumbnails, chase trends and celebrate big numbers.

But you cannot fake genuine attention forever.

For me, the goal has never been to simply get people to watch.
The goal is to create something worth remembering.

And no algorithm update can change that.
