As someone currently shooting on both the ZR and the Komodo, I could honestly see the FX5 replacing both cameras for me. Not because of the image, but because of the ecosystem and overall versatility. Historically, the cleaner, sharper image from the Burano always left me craving the “thicker,” more dense image I get from the Komodo and ZR. But with most of my lenses already being E mount, and the FX5 offering X-OCN in such a compact form factor, consolidating into a single system is becoming pretty tempting.
I’m almost finished shooting my ZR content, I’ve got two travel films and one narrative project wrapped, so those videos (plus one larger, in depth ZR video) are still on the way.
Next month, though, I’m shooting a much bigger narrative short film and documenting a ton of bts content. I’m debating whether to shoot the film on the ZR or wait until I can get my hands on the FX5.
Normally, I’m the first person to say the camera is one of the least important parts of making a great film. But since this project is also becoming content for the channel, the camera choice suddenly feels a lot more relevant.
Between the ZR and the FX5, which camera are you personally more excited about, and why?
Burano X-OCN still (which should be fairly representative of what the FX5 will produce) vs ZR R3D still.
Put together a rig using some of the Bright Tangerine Create pieces from my Komodo setup combined with the XLCS ZR cage.
The ZR CTL app (ZineControl) has also been incredible. Makes using your iPhone as a monitor way more practical than I expected. If you're shooting on the ZR, definitely worth looking into!

I’ve been deep in development on the next FilmVision Pro update, and I’m excited to finally start sharing some details!
This update will include improved film negative emulations, new Instant Grades, new Natural/Clean Grades, and an entirely new DCTL workflow.
I’ve also developed a custom grain and halation model that I’m incredibly happy with. These will be implemented through a set of DCTLs that will streamline your grading process.
In total, the update will include 6 new DCTLs.
As a thank you for all the support, this update will be completely free for all existing FilmVision Pro owners.
For those who only want specific tools, I’ll also be offering the new DCTLs and grade packs individually at a lower price point, so you can pick up only what you need.
