Thank you for watching our videos!
Ocean Conservation Namibia is dedicated to the protection of Namibia's marine wildlife. OCN was started by Naude and Katja Dreyer in January 2020 to create global awareness of ocean and plastic pollution and it's horrible and avoidable impact on animals and specifically seals. OCN is based in Walvis Bay, Namibia.
All videos are owned by Naude and Katja Dreyer.

Help Us Fuel Our Mission!

In the past year alone, we’ve rescued over 1,000 entangled Cape fur seals — but every rescue takes fuel, gear, and a team ready to go every morning.

Rescue of the Month – #1015 for 2025!

Rescuing entangled prime Cape fur seal bulls is never an easy task, and this seal proved that point.

We spotted this seal a couple of times and also got reports from the local tour guides about him. We didn't manage to rescue him on our first attempt.

On our second attempt, with more of a strategy, we managed to free him from the plastic strap he was entangled in.

The video will be out soon! Stay Tuned!

Officially Confirmed: Rabies in Cape Fur Seals

The Namibian Veterinary Services has officially confirmed rabies in two Cape fur seals at Pelican Point. While the situation is being monitored and assessed, the public is advised to avoid contact with all seals and marine wildlife in the area. This carousel provides a quick summary of what’s happening, why it matters, and what you can do.

Big developments for Namibia’s seal management.

The Namibian Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Land Reform has officially launched the Seals Sub-Sector Technical Committee (SSTC) — a new initiative aimed at transforming Namibia’s seal sector into a sustainable, responsible, and economically viable model.

As Ocean Conservation Namibia, we are watching this development closely. Seal management decisions have direct implications for marine biodiversity and ecosystem health.

We believe conservation and economic development can work hand in hand — but only when guided by science, transparency, and long-term thinking.

Rescue of the Month – #1011 for 2025!

It's not often that we find a seal with an entanglement on its hind flippers, which makes it very difficult to spot from a distance.

This seal had a commercial fishing line cutting very deep into its flipper, almost completely severing it.

Without our help, this seal would've lost its flipper, which would have resulted in her not being able to swim or hunt properly, leading to death.
