Thank you for watching our videos!
Ocean Conservation Namibia is dedicated to the protection of Namibia's marine wildlife. OCN was started by Naude and Katja Dreyer in January 2020 to create global awareness of ocean and plastic pollution and it's horrible and avoidable impact on animals and specifically seals. OCN is based in Walvis Bay, Namibia.
All videos are owned by Naude and Katja Dreyer.

Rescue of the Month – #855 & #856 for 2025!
We were at a loss for words when we first spotted these three seals entangled together.
Unfortunately, one of the seals was already deceased, but the other two were still alive. Without our intervention, this would've been tragic.
This is not an accident! It was foreseeable and could have been prevented by reasonable action that was not taken. This is negligence!
The video will be out soon! Stay Tuned!

King's Baton Relay Highlights
The OCN team was invited to be part of the planning committee of the King's Baton Relay activities that took place on the 25th of September 2025 with the them of "Ocean Conservation."
We took charge in educating the students and invited guests about the ocean and it's importance. We advocate for sustainability and ocean health, and we will continue spreading our message to inform and encourage more environmental advocates. Especially among our youth.

Pilchard Quotas Could Push Penguins Closer to Extinction!
The Namibian government has approved a new 10,000-tonne pilchard quota, despite years of scientific warnings that pilchard stocks are dangerously low and still recovering.
According to experts interviewed in a recent @thenamibiannewspaper
article, this decision could accelerate the decline of the African Penguin, Cape Cormorant, and other marine species that depend on pilchards (sardines) as their primary food source.

Sutainable Fisheries Seminar
Yesterday, the OCN team was invited to attend the SOAM main seminar focusing on Sustainable Fisheries & Aquaculture Management.
Fish farming is a very hot topic at the moment in Namibia. We appreciate being part of such events to share our view on certain developments and continue to advocate for sustainability.
We understand that such initiatives can bring benefits. However, it's always important to look at both sides of the coin and understand the potential concerns as well. This way, we can make sure to tread carefully.
Today's youth are the leaders of tomorrow and it gives us hope for the future to see them spearheading such initiatives.

School Group Visit...
Yesterday, we had a group of about 55 teachers and learners from the Dr Sydney Memorial College visit us for an educational tour of the Walvis Bay Lagoon.
We had a great time teaching the learners about the ocean, its importance, and the different marine life within it.
Education and awareness is the first step in bringing attention to the crisis our oceans face and grooming future ocean conservation advocates.

This year, we have officially rescued more Cape fur seals than ever before.
While it may sound like a success, this milestone is a somber reflection of a larger crisis: marine pollution. With months still left in the year, the weight of this number is heavy.
For each rescue you see us post, there are countless others that we will never reach.
Our work saving these seals is only the last step. The real solution starts with preventing the entanglements in the first place.
Help us fight this problem at its source.
