The first piece in the collection, “OFF THE HOOK,” inspired by WHITESNAKE’s “Still of the Night,” has been personally inspected and hand-signed by Tommy Aldridge and is ready for release.

Poland is a loyal, stand-up guy. He and Nick had a really tight relationship, they hit it off from day one, both musically and personally. It’s a real shame that Poland, Ellefson, and Friedman didn’t all get the chance to reconnect with Nick musically before he passed away. But his final drum recordings are still alive, and there’s still an opportunity to create a meaningful tribute to our beloved Nick through the music he left behind. Bless you, Chris.

"The Early Years of Nick Menza" Before joining Megadeth, Nick Menza forged his early career in a band called Rhoads, fronted by Kelle Rhoads, brother of legendary guitarist Randy Rhoads.

Nick was a massive admirer of Ozzy Osbourne’s early solo work, especially Blizzard of Ozz, Diary of a Madman, and Bark at the Moon. He reportedly wore out two cassette copies of Diary of a Madman, describing it as “epic,” “evil,” and “heavy.”

Seeing Ozzy live at around 18 years old left a lasting impression. Behind the kit was powerhouse Tommy Aldridge and Tommy was a huge influence on him.

Nick absorbed Aldridge’s double-kick patterns, fluid tom work, cymbal chokes, and dramatic breaks incorporating them into his own style. Some of the drum work heard on those classic Megadeth albums draws directly from Aldridge’s influence.

For Nick, those Ozzy records weren’t just albums, they were blueprints. Seeing Aldridge live helped transform a devoted fan into one of thrash metal’s most formidable drummers.

Known for his speed, precision, and relentless double-bass work, he continues to perform with the same intensity that has defined his career for decades.

Long before it became common in rock and metal, Aldridge was already using two bass drums, helping shape a heavier, more powerful drumming style that influenced generations of players.

Both Nick and Tommy used the same Greg Voelker rack system, played Yamaha drums, and famously held their sticks crossed like a cross behind the kit, a signature part of their iconic stage presence.

Remembering Nick Menza & Honoring Tommy Aldridge

Nick Menza always cited Tommy Aldridge as one of his top five drumming influences. Nick studied Tommy’s techniques and blended them into his own powerful, high-energy style, which made him the drummer he was.

A lot of the iconic drum patterns you hear on those classic Megadeth albums were inspired by Tommy, and Nick’s animated, aggressive playing style was also heavily influenced by Tommy’s intensity behind the kit.

To mark the soft launch, Aldridge has shared a personal video message thanking supporters for their unwavering loyalty, which can be viewed below.

Over the years Megadeth has become almost as known for its lineup changes as its legendary catalog.

Being fired from Megadeth has happened to some incredibly talented musicians, players who helped shape the band during some of its most important eras.

Dave Mustaine has never hidden the fact that he runs Megadeth with a strong hand. For better or worse, that approach has meant constant evolution, high expectations, and little room for anything less than total commitment.

Sometimes the reasons were musical differences, sometimes personal issues, behavior, sometimes business or lifestyle clashes, but rarely a lack of talent.
