Cheddar Chuck E.
This may be a little late, but happy 35th anniversary to the Chuck E. Cheeseās Cyberamic Road Stage!
Originally debuting on November 20, 1990 at the then-recently opened Jonesboro, Georgia location, the Road Stage was conceived as a solution for a new Cyberamic show tying in with the then-new Munchās Make Believe Band following the introduction of the Concept Unification 3-Stage just 5 months prior (it debuted in June of that year). From November 26 to December 18, 1990, 3 more prototype shows would be installed at new Chuck E. Cheeseās Pizza locations in Topeka, KS, Springfield, PA, and West Palm Beach, FL.
The first finalized Road Stage debuted at the Mississauga, Ontario, Canada location on March 11, 1991. From that point on, approximately 28 more Road Stages would be produced and installed into new and select pre-existing CEC locations between 1991 and 1992 alongside the national rollout of Concept Unification (32 were installed in the long run). But ultimately, the stage type would be phased out in favor of cheaper-to-install stages like the 2-Stage (debuting in Feb. 1992) and 1-Stage (debuting in Mar. 1992). The last location to get a Road Stage at all was in Calgary, Alberta, Canada around 1995.
Most of the original Road Stages got removed due to the Chuck E. Cheeseās 2.0 remodel by the 2020s (Hialeah, FL was the first Road location to get affected, in fall 2021). Originally, this would effectively eliminate all animatronics in locations, and the Road Stage was sadly not immune to this change. In June 2024, the Mississauga location ended up being the very last location to have this show at all, following the removal of the show at the Charlotte-Albemarle, NC location. While its condition was not definitely not up to Legacy Location standards, its history was now important, given the rarity of the Road Stage as a stage type by that point.
In February 2025 (earlier this year though it already feels like almost a year ago, crazy, I know), Mississauga, the location, was announced to be a new Legacy Location via company CEO David McKillipsā LinkedIn page. That got the fandomās hopes up for the most part. Some were skeptical, some were hopeful. Then it would come to turn out that plans changed months later.
In June 2025, it was announced instead that we were gonna see Mississauga Road Stageās come to the Willowdale location, potentially merging it with the features of the latterās 2-Stage. And so, on June 15, 2025, after over 34 years in place, Mississaugaās Road Stage was finally taken out, with the initial plan for it to be moved to Willowdale as originally scheduled.
But it turned out, the team reportedly āhit a wallā and damaged the Road Stage pedestals during shipment, and it was labeled as āunsalvageableā by now-disgraced marketing officer Mark Kupferman. So in the end, we lost the last Road Stage because CEC corporate played stupid on us. And thatās it. The honest truth. Because sometimes, brutal honesty is the best type of honesty.
Rest in peace to the Road Stage.
