We are a social advocacy organization focused on legislative education and empowering Hoosiers to advocate for a better future for Indiana.

MADVOTERS

This is worth celebrating! Some of the bad bills that would have rolled back voting rights, restricted reproductive freedom, dictated personal choices, and implemented Project 2025-style policies here in Indiana are dead this legislative session.

While language from these dead bills can be resurrected in live bills via amendments, it's still important to celebrate these wins, which are all thanks to your advocacy! Your emails and phone calls DO make a difference.

Check out the status of all the bills we're tracking at MADVoters.org.

Legislators are on break next week and will reconvene on Monday, March 3 to begin the second half of the legislative session.

These good bills are STUCK in committee, and won't have a chance to move forward in the legislative process unless they get a committee hearing. Contact the listed committee chairperson and ask them to bring the bill to their committee.

Indiana has become a testing ground for Christian Nationalist legislation straight out of the Project 2025 playbook. The bills listed here represent efforts from extremist legislators of the supermajority to control and criminalize anything they don't agree with. House Bills 1486 and 1505 do not consider the circumstances of those eligible for SNAP benefits. The average per person SNAP benefit is under $200 per month. That is not enough for anyone to be wasteful, nor does monitoring or restricting purchases do anything to solve the foundational issues, which includes Hoosiers living in food deserts, the unhoused population, fast rising utility costs, nor the medical needs of those with sensory sensitivities. No matter how much you starve someone with medical needs or offer them 'healthy alternatives' they cannot physically eat a variety of textures.

Not everyone has the time, skills, and equipment needed to provide unprocessed meals to their loved ones. As you can see with the graphic, premade foods are effective in saving time and money while making sure mouths are fed.

Unfortunately, State Representatives Ryan Lauer and Lindsay Patterson don't seem to care about Hoosier families in these positions and want to make their lives more difficult.

If you want to share your thoughts on the proposed bills, consider getting in touch with them at
Ryan Lauer email: h59@iga.in.gov phone: 317-232-9800
Lindsay Patterson email: h55@iga.in.gov phone: 317-232-9740

We are pleased to report that 1136 will not be scheduled for committee hearing this week.

Thank you for calling and emailing the bill author and committee chair. If you were planning to head to the Statehouse on Wednesday to testify against this bill - don't change your plans. Another bad education bill (1002) is on the schedule. We recently posted about the dangers of this bill.

In December, Michael Hicks, a distinguished economics professor at Ball State University, discussed a report from Indiana's Commission on Higher Ed. With notable highlights of his discussion on the report in the graphics below, it is clear that Indiana, after 20 years of single-party rule, is less successful, less competitive, and less educated.
