1930s Calcutta’s Wildest Ride

The richest family in town got bored of Rolls-Royces.

So Manmathanath Mullick, the young heir of Marble Palace, walked into Alipore Zoo and simply asked:
“Can I take two zebras home?”

They said yes.

Next morning, a glossy black carriage rolled down Chowringhee pulled by perfectly striped zebras. Traffic stopped. British ladies fainted. Kids screamed “Tiger car!”

It wasn’t for speed. It was pure flex.

For years the Mullick Zebra Carriage was Calcutta’s ultimate “look at me” moment — because when you’re that rich, why settle for horsepower when you can have stripes?
