I ran a small experiment on my latest YouTube upload.
I tested three thumbnails:
One included AI-generated text
Two were entirely designed by me
What surprised me wasn’t the performance.
It was the reaction.
A few people were frustrated by the AI element. Some even unfollowed.
But here’s something many creators don’t realise:
YouTube doesn’t show the same thumbnail to everyone.
The platform dynamically serves the version it predicts each viewer is most likely to click and is based on their past behaviour.
So different people saw different thumbnails.
That’s not manipulation. That’s how the algorithm works.
For me, this wasn’t about AI vs no AI.
It was about understanding audience behaviour.
As creatives and business owners, we can:
1️⃣ Resist change emotionally
or
2️⃣ Test, gather data, and make informed decisions
Whether you love or hate AI, it’s already embedded into the platforms we use daily.
The more interesting conversation isn’t “AI good or bad?”
It’s:
How do we use emerging tools responsibly, strategically, and transparently?

I have had a manic 12 months from flying to Norway to cover music festivals, Estonia to shoot their fashion runways, as well as up and down this country.
