Celebrating the world’s greatest apes — Happy World Gorilla Day!

What a privilege it is to share this planet with these magnificent giants.
Today, we join the rest of the world in celebrating gorillas and everyone whose dedication continues to give them a future. As conservation partners working to support the protection of mountain gorillas across Uganda, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, we are reminded that their survival is a shared responsibility.

From the brave rangers who protect gorillas every day, patrol their habitats and stand against poaching, to conservationists, researchers, governments, local communities, tourism operators and, importantly, all of you Gorilla Lovers around the world — your support, your voice and your love for these incredible animals truly matter.

The journey has not always been easy. Mountain gorillas once stood on the edge of extinction, with their population estimated at fewer than 270 individuals in the 1980s. Through decades of dedicated conservation efforts, including the pioneering work associated with conservation heroes such as Dian Fossey, alongside the tireless work of many others, their numbers have recovered to more than 1,000 individuals today.
But this is not the end of the story.
Every gorilla we protect today represents a future we are choosing to preserve — for the forests they call home, for the communities living alongside them, and for generations that deserve the opportunity to experience these remarkable creatures in the wild.

So today, we celebrate the mountain gorillas, but we also celebrate the people behind their conservation story.
To the rangers.
To the conservationists.
To the researchers.
To the communities.
To the guides and tourism partners.
And to every person around the world who cares about gorillas.

Beautiful moment between Sweet Siblings showing love in togetherness during harsh Weather.
Not only mountain Gorillas but all Gorilla Species often seem vulnerable in Rainy conditions, Of course just like we do.

With Bwindi Rainforest Forest being seated at an over 2000 M high above the sea level, Rain is Oftenly expected both in Rainy and Sunny Seasons, it's why we often encourage Tourists coming for Gorilla Trekking to Plan and Pack for both Conditions.

During such moments, Gorillas take advantage of the forest thickness making it difficult for the raindrops to pass through.
You will see them Collected together with babies and infants placed in the middle for Warmth as well as Pregnant ones if any around their nest.

Regardless of everything, their thick fur around their whole bodies helps them to maintain stable warmth that even the heaviest rain finds it hard to reach on the Skin.

Hi Gorilla Lovers,
We're so delighted to share the impressive news of the Newly Born Babies in Bwindi Forest, The Home to the largest population of Mountain Gorillas among the world's only 3 places where they can be found.

From last Weekend, We have received a total number of 3 Babies, This is so unusual and The encouraging.
Seeing this after 10 Days ago since another Group Posho Led by The Silverback Magara also received a new baby by the mother Kaheru.

This Comes as on the other Side in Rwanda, We're set to Celebrate a Special annual Gorilla Naming Ceremony where 22 Babies will be getting Names on September 5th- A Great event that happens every year.

Good news from the Nkuringo gorilla family of the Southern part of Bwindi Forest:
Our Gorilla Family is Growing. An adult female, Nderema, gave birth on 30/06/2026. It was not accessible because the mother was very protective and kept the baby hidden, making it difficult to confirm her identity.

The infant was born near River Ivi, bringing the group’s total to 15 individuals:

- 2 silverbacks
- 6 adult females
- 2 sub-adults
- 1 juvenile
- 4 infants

The proposed name IS “Ivi”, as it was born near River Ivi. The sex of the infant is not yet known.

Congratulations to the Mother and the whole Family.

On this Father's Day, we appreciate and celebrate the presence of fathers.

They protect. They sacrifice. They carry pain within while keeping smiles on their families' faces. They keep going even when the whole world seems to turn against them. They take risks, sometimes at the cost of their own well-being, for the sake of their families. They give their all without expecting anything in return.

They are often blamed for society's failures, judged harshly, and treated as the usual suspects whenever things go wrong. Yet they continue to stand strong, providing, guiding, and supporting those they love.
Dear Fathers, we see you. We celebrate you. We are proud of you, and we recognize the invaluable role you play in our lives and communities. You are a blessing.

The 3 Days Old newly Born Gorilla and mother are all still doing well.
We woke up to these good news on Wednesday _ the time before Gorilla Tracking guests arrive the Gorilla Location in Rushaga group.

This great addition by Bushekura "The Mother" Brings the Total Number of the group "Mishayu family" From 9 members to Ten.

Conservation continues to win everyday and we appreciate everyone involved in the Ecosystem of the Mountain Gorillas survival including you. Your support and encouragement is appreciated.

Update on the Ebola Situation and the Safety of Mountain Gorillas

Over the past few weeks, we have received many messages from you -around the world asking about the welfare of Uganda's mountain gorillas following the recent Ebola outbreak in the region. Your concern and care for these incredible animals have been truly heartwarming, our hearts are full and we sincerely thank you.

We would like to reassure everyone that Uganda's mountain gorillas remain safe and protected. Their wellbeing remains our highest priority, and strict health and conservation protocols continue to be observed across all gorilla tourism destinations.
Uganda has extensive experience in managing public health situations, and the relevant health authorities continue to closely monitor and respond to developments. At present, tourism activities, including Gorilla Trekking, Gorilla Habituation, and Chimpanzee Trekking, continue to operate normally, with no tourism destinations under lockdown.

We also understand that some travelers may prefer to postpone their journeys until they feel more comfortable traveling. In partnership with the Uganda Wildlife Authority, guests holding gorilla permits may be eligible to reschedule their permits without additional costs, subject to the applicable guidelines and approval procedures.

We remain optimistic that the situation will continue to improve both in Uganda and across the region. We appreciate your continued support, confidence, and concern for both our wildlife and communities.
