Tomorrow, there will be a 90-95% solar eclipse in the UK. This will be the best eclipse visible for here probably in my lifetime.
In a past life, i used to be an astrophotographer, and photographing the sun was a small rabbit hole i fell down during that time… so i have a bit of experience with this, and I though it might be fun to see if we can capture some video of the eclipse using an FPV drone.
The main problem is focal length… the sun is a pretty small target in a wide angle lens, and unfortunately, strapping my 80mm solar refractor to an FPV drone isn’t practical!
I’m going to try this 43mm MFT lens, with some Baader solar film, on the Blackmagic Micro G2. Even with this lens, the sun will be a tiny dot, but it should be fun to try anyway!
Check out the channel in a couple of days to see how it gets on, and fingers crossed for some clear skys (and no midge)! 😎

I loved my 7 inch analogue long range cruiser, but I definitely felt a little held back. I designed it while trying to tick too many boxes. It felt on the edge carrying 8S2P packs, and wasn’t as solid as my AOS 7 felt for proper fast and low mountain surfing.
It did manage it quite well to be fair, 30+km was no problem, and it was rapid when it wanted to be (200+kmh). But it was just missing something…
Anyway, i decided to move up a prop size and transplant the electronics into a new frame.
This AOS UL8 should be even more efficient. Its about 100g heavier than my Rad Li-Ion was, mainly due to the 3110 900kv motors, but that should be mitigated by the larger props, and it should be even more capable in bad weather with the extra torque.
Maiden flight soon!

We had a special guest at the Roundtable this week!
Tokyo Dom has played a big part in the development of whoops and tiny whoops over the years, it was really interesting to speak to him and get his insights.

I haven’t done any full build videos before, so constructive criticism is very welcome!
There are many ways to skin a cat, and building a quad is no different! Maybe there is some things in there you all may find useful though!

I’ve been really looking forward to putting this little 2.5 inch analogue micro ripper together!
Supafly Flipmicro
RCInpower 1303 6000kv
JHEMCU GH743AIO 50A AM32
Rush Tank Mini VTX
Runcam Pheonix 2.0 Mini
GEP Micro 2.4G RX
Flyfish Micro M10 GPS
Hover Test and Maiden to follow soon! I’ll be flying this at 4S, so it should be absolutely rapid at this AUW!
Unusually for me, I’ve made a build video too… it will be online soon.

I’ve been missing a decent 2.5inch Micro for park ripping for ages, so I was Supa Psyched to get my hands on the new Supafly Flipmicro when I heard it was coming!
I don’t normally do build videos on the channel, but since I’ve had a few folk asking, I’ll see if I can pit something together for this!
I’m either going with and Caddx Ascent Lite VTX, or a Flywoo DJI O4 Wide Angle… I haven’t decided yet, but I’m leaning towards the Ascent Lite.

The FPV Roundtable Needs You!
Over the past few months we have been refining The FPV Round Table. We feel like we have found our rhythm, and now we would like to invite guests to join the conversations.
We're looking for people with a story to tell, or a perspective that doesn't often get heard.
Maybe you:
- Work in the FPV industry (R&D, manufacturing, retail or distribution).
- Organise or participate in FPV events
- Fly in a discipline that you think deserves more attention
- Have created something interesting for the community
- Have an unusual FPV journey or experience that others could learn from
You don't need to be a YouTuber or have thousands of followers. If you just have something interesting to say, we would love to hear from you!
the FPV Round Table isn't about proving who is right or wrong, it's simply pilot's with different viewpoints having a chat, and we would love to bring new voices into the mix.
if this sounds like you, send me a DM or email us at

The SmellyFox family are having a weekend away in a treehouse!
Of course I took a couple of FPV drones to chase the kids about with!
Not freestyle drones for once either… I’ve been working on my smooth cinematic flow… and giving myself a bit of a break from crashing and fixing 😂
I hope everyone is enjoying the Summer holidays (or winter break to my friends down under). And to the parents out there, nearly half way though 🥵
Happy flying everyone! ☀️😇
