If your teen is struggling with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND), I’m glad you found this channel.
You are not alone, and your child is not broken.
I’m Dr. Lee—a licensed pediatric psychologist with over 20 years of experience helping families with retraining the brain and nervous system regulation. My goal is to show you how neuroplasticity makes recovery possible and help your teen move past the “stuck” loop.
This channel provides educational information and is not a substitute for individualized medical or mental health care. Always consult your qualified healthcare provider regarding diagnosis or treatment.
This channel provides the clinical answers you’ve been looking for, clear explanations of FND recovery, and stories from families who have successfully gotten their lives back.
No more guesswork. No more panic reactions. Just a clear, structured path to resolving symptoms.

Parents of teens with FND —
If it feels like your teen's brain is working against them, here's something worth knowing. The same brain plasticity that made their nervous system vulnerable to FND may also be what supports recovery.
During adolescence, the brain is pruning, strengthening, and reorganizing its networks at a level it may not reach again in adulthood. What the brain is repeatedly exposed to during this window matters — and that includes your steady presence at home.
You're not missing effort. Your teen's brain may already be built for change. It just needs the right conditions.
In this video, I walk through what's happening in the adolescent brain and what it means for FND recovery.

Parents of teens with FND —
If your family has been going from specialist to specialist, each one focused on a different symptom, it can start to feel like nobody is looking at the whole picture.
Dr. Dario Zagar, a neurologist at Yale and founding member of the FND Society, explains that many of these symptoms may trace back to the same root — the brain misprocessing information from the body. Treating each one separately can miss what's actually driving them.
That reframe alone can change how a family approaches recovery.
In this conversation, we walk through what that looks like in practice.

Parents of teens with FND —
If your teen zones out mid-conversation or forgets what you said five minutes ago, it can feel personal. But brain fog in FND may not be a motivation problem. It may be a sign the brain has shifted its resources away from thinking and toward scanning for threat.
The brain has a limited attention budget. When the nervous system is on high alert, much of that budget gets redirected inward — toward monitoring pain, fatigue, and danger. That leaves less capacity for memory, conversation, and follow-through.
Your teen is not tuning you out. Their brain is working hard — just not where you can see it.
In this video, I explain what's happening and a practical communication shift that can help.

Parents of teens with FND —
If it feels like your teen's brain is locked into a pattern that won't budge, here's something worth knowing. The teenage brain is still actively under construction. The prefrontal cortex doesn't fully develop until the mid-twenties, which means the patterns driving FND symptoms are not yet set in stone.
The same developing brain that learned a stuck loop can learn a new path — through repeated experiences of safety.
Your family isn't stuck because you aren't trying hard enough.
In this video, I walk through the brain structures involved in neuroplasticity and practical strategies that support real change for teens with FND.
