Dr. Lee's Teen FND Academy™

If your teen is struggling with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) and nothing has worked, you’re in the right place.

I’m Dr. Jin Lee — a pediatric psychologist and chronic pain survivor — and I’ve spent over 20 years helping families like yours resolve FND and get their lives back.

This channel will give you clarity, direction, and stories from families who’ve walked this path. But YouTube videos are just the beginning — they’re meant to show you what’s possible, not replace the deeper work it takes to get there.

If you’re ready to move beyond management and into real recovery, I’ll show you how that happens — step by step.

You’re not alone. And you don’t have to keep guessing.

How I’ve helped 100+ families resolve FND — even in cases of high frequency functional seizures and other extreme symptoms, when nothing else had worked: www.teenfndacademy.com/tfa-yt

Dr. Lee's Teen FND Academy™

Yesterday we shared a mini-lesson about why FND recovery can feel exhausting — even when progress is happening.

In this episode, Dr. Lee explains why recovery isn’t a straight line, why symptom control alone doesn’t work, and how steady, regulated action helps the nervous system relearn safety over time.

Today’s FND Mini-Lesson

FND recovery often feels hard — even when progress is happening.

That’s because recovery isn’t about forcing symptoms away.
It’s about the brain unlearning protection and rebuilding trust.

When the nervous system has been stuck in survival mode, it prioritizes protection over function.

Changing that pattern takes repetition, regulation, and time — not willpower or symptom control.

If recovery feels exhausting right now, you’re not doing it wrong.
Have you been told to expect a straight line? ❤️👇

Yesterday we shared a short mini-lesson about how seizures in epilepsy and FND can look similar but come from different underlying mechanisms.

In this video, I explain that distinction in plain language and walks through how epilepsy, PNES, and FND are differentiated in clinical care.

Today’s FND Mini-Lesson

Seizures can look similar on the outside,
but epilepsy and FND come from different underlying mechanisms.

Epilepsy is driven by abnormal electrical activity in the brain
(a hardware-level signal issue).

FND (including what some doctors refer to as PNES) involves disrupted brain–body communication (a software-level signaling issue), without abnormal electrical discharges during seizures.

That's why Non-Epileptic seizures from FND don't appear on a scan.

If this distinction was never explained clearly to you before, you’re not alone.

Have you heard it described this way before? ❤️👇
