Abroad Perspective

Welcome to Abroad Perspective where moving countries means more than just changing locations.

Here, we talk about all things moving abroad — but more importantly, we focus on the mindset shifts that help us grow, flourish, and fully live wherever we find ourselves away from home.

We’re a community that refuses to settle for just “getting by.”
We choose to embrace our journey, expand our identity, and make space for joy in every new chapter.

If you’re navigating life between worlds, this is your home. Let’s walk this journey together — embracing new perspectives and building a life we truly love abroad.

Abroad Perspective

When I moved to the UK, I thought — perfect.
The British education system is highly regarded, so I thought all I need to do is get my daughter into school and… Oxford here we come!

Then I started hearing about extra tuition.
Tutors. After-school classes. Weekend lessons.

And I remember thinking, wait a minute… isn’t school enough?
I thought I had escaped the rigorous, pressure filled academic system that I went through.
So I had to dig deeper. The system feels relaxed on the surface, yet it’s quietly very competitive.

In Part 1 of this video, I step back to understand what the British education system really is and whether extra tuition is necessary, or if some of the pressure we feel comes from expectations we carried with us.

So tell me — do you think the British education system is relaxed… or quietly very competitive?

Abroad Perspective

There’s a quiet tension many of us building lives beyond borders carry — even if we don’t always say it out loud.

The tension between building back home and building a life where we are.

Between what people can see…
and what you’re quietly becoming.

From the outside, success has been shaped to look like houses, land, and visible results back home.
But for some of us, success is the growth that is happening within. This could be the skills and networks you are building, the clarity you are gaining, and pursuit of time freedom — slower, quieter, and sometimes invisible.

Both paths can be valid.
But intention matters.

Are you building because you’re clear about your long-term direction
or because you feel pressure to prove something?

Because sometimes building there can delay your growth here.
And sometimes building here doesn’t make sense to people watching from afar.

There’s no single right way
The question is — which one are you intentionally choosing?

👇 Let’s talk:
Right now, are you building more for home or for where you are — and why?

Abroad Perspective

Lately, I’ve been finding myself as the only African — or one of very few — in certain spaces.

In professional rooms.
In skills development courses.
In places where opportunity, exposure, and growth are happening.
Even in kids activities

And it’s made me pause.

Not because we should be the majority — but because, proportionately, something feels… off.
We’re here. Our communities are here. Our children are here.

So why do we seem to disappear when it comes to spaces that build visibility, confidence, leadership, and long-term growth?

And it’s raised bigger questions for me:

Are we building — or just surviving?
Are we growing — or just getting by?
Are we thinking long-term — or only for the next shift, the next visa, the next remittance?

This conversation isn’t about blame.
It’s about perspective.
It’s about mindset.
It’s about remembering that we are capable of more than survival alone.

Because many of us are brilliant.
Skilled.
Educated.
Gifted.

And we deserve to be visible, heard, represented — and thriving — in every room our lives touch.

Christmas Abroad- A season of mixed emotions

The streets sparkle with lights.
The music is cheerful.
Everything feels festive…
And yet, for many of us living away from home, this season can feel quiet, lonely, even.
It’s possible to admire the magic around you while missing the noise, the warmth, and the people back home. Both feelings can exist. If this season feels a little heavier, know that you’re not alone. And if it feels joyful, embrace it fully.

Wherever you are in the world this Christmas, may you find moments of warmth, perspective, and connection.
