Hey friends, we are Matt and Emilie!

Subscribe for weekly videos!

🇨🇦In 2019, we sold our house and spent the next two and a half years transforming a 1993 Thomas Built school bus into our full-time home. We left behind the 9-to-5 grind to live closer to nature, spend more time together, and bring our fur babies along for the ride.

After completing an 8-month off-grid caretaking job at a remote lodge on the coast of British Columbia, we’re now based on the Pacific West Coast—exploring, surfing, and raising our new puppy, Rosie.

We share lifestyle and adventure videos about living tiny, off-grid, and wild—plus visits to other remote lodges and unique stays with an adventure twist.

🌲Claysanas comes from “clay” — grounding, creative, and of the earth — and “sana,” meaning sun. Together it represents our balance between being rooted and radiant, living close to nature and creating a life that feels warm, free, and alive.

🤗Thanks for the support!🤗

We need YOUR help!
We are looking into buying a tandem sea kayak. We have loved and enjoyed spending so much time out on the water while we were at the lodge.
Currently looking for a used tandem sea kayak, as a new one isn't within our budget!

Do you have any advice or recommendations? And do you know anyone selling their tandem sea kayak in Southern lower BC?
Hoping to find one with foot pedals, so that we can fish/troll while we move. Also wanting to do some destination camping with the kayak this year!

We wanted to start by expressing our heartfelt gratitude for all the support from everyone following us on this journey. Your care, curiosity, and encouragement mean the world to us as we navigate this remote adventure!

That said, we wanted to let you know that we’ll be taking a break from posting videos for the next few weeks. We’ve realized that we’re spending too much time on screens and want to fully immerse ourselves in the beauty of this place. Taking this time away from screens is essential for our mental health and to truly make the most of this unique experience.

Food Situation:
We’ve also noticed some concerns about how much food we have while living remotely. Rest assured, although we’re now out of fresh veggies, the company has supplied us with enough food to feed a family of four, for at least two seasons! We were originally stocked up in September when we got here, so we’re well-prepared for our time here.

Emergency Protocol:
A few of you have also asked, “What do you do in an emergency? Anything more serious than a band-aid fix or a headache?” Great question! We have safety protocols in place to handle emergencies. Twice a week, we’re required to contact the company’s office for a safety check-in. In the rare event of a serious emergency, we’re equipped to call 911 using Wi-Fi calling on our internet connection. We also have a satellite phone as a backup to ensure we can always reach help if needed.

Our Drone:
On another note, our drone is unfortunately still not working. However, we do have some footage that we haven’t shared yet and will continue to include it in our upcoming videos until we can get a new drone. We have been putting feelers out there to see if we could get mail at some point while we are here. Due to the extreme weather changes, being so close to the open ocean, it's very unlikely we will see any boats coming out this way for a while. We may not be able to get a package until we leave the lodge.

Once again, we’re incredibly grateful for all of your support. We’re looking forward to sharing more with everyone in the new year. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year!

Much love,
Emilie and Matt

Yesterday, we hiked up above the lodge and checked our trail camera. We spotted a couple of big bucks, and Matt’s planning to hunt one while we’re here.

Would you want to see that process—hunting, and processing meat? I (Em) have never hunted before, so this would be a first for me. Or should we just talk about it, without showing anything, keep it PG.

We’ve also had a lot comments about the deer near the lodge, but Matt feels hunting should be intentional, not just taking the easiest option.

Have you checked out this weeks video, Week 9?
We were able to get out on the boat again yesterday, the ocean was the calmest we have seen, since we got here. We spent a couple hours exploring some spots that we have never been to before!
We have another trail camera footage video that we are posting tomorrow around 6pm PST. More bucks are coming through the area and Matt's getting eager about hunting!

Have you checked out Week Eight: Part Two yet? We had our first close call with a black bear, it was definitely a reality check for Emilie. Let us know what you think and thanks for the support!
