What’s holding you back from creating the Art you’ve always dreamed of in 2025?

As we enter the new year, it’s the perfect time to set goals and reflect on our journeys so far. Let me share something personal with you.

In 2024, I finally achieved a goal I’d been chasing for over a decade. My painting “Self Portrait at Low Tide” was selected for the Herbert Smith Freehills Portrait Award at the National Portrait Gallery in London. (You may remember it as the BP award).

I’d entered this competition every single year since 2008. Three times, I got through to the second round of judging, but this was the first time my work made it into the show!

You’d think after reaching such a milestone, I’d be more motivated than ever to keep painting.

But the opposite happened. Last year, has been the least productive of my whole career.

Why? Because of teaching.

I’m incredibly passionate about helping others learn to paint. I remember how challenging it was finding the knowledge I need to improve.

That’s why I created the SIMPLIFY Drawing & Painting to share Old Masters’ secrets in a way that actually makes sense.

I poured years of dedication into my tutorials and I gained immense satisfaction from helping fellow artists like you grow. But during that time, I barely touched my own brushes.

This needed to change. So, last year I made a bold decision. I quit painting altogether!

Don’t worry, it’s only temporary.

I’ve been working on something new.

In 2025, I’m making painting my priority again and I want you to join me.
