A woman lived with a *stone baby* inside her body for 40 years.

Doctors made the shocking discovery during a routine scan.

An 82-year-old Colombian woman experiencing stomach pain recently made global headlines when doctors discovered she had unknowingly carried a calcified fetus—known as a lithopedion or "stone baby"—for over 40 years.

The rare condition occurs when a fetus from an abdominal ectopic pregnancy dies and is too large to be absorbed by the body. Instead, the body calcifies it to prevent infection, effectively "mummifying" the fetus internally. Weighing around four pounds, the stone baby had remained unnoticed for decades until an X-ray finally revealed the unusual mass.

Lithopedion is exceptionally rare, with only about 300 documented cases in medical literature. Abdominal pregnancies, the root cause of this phenomenon, occur in roughly 1 in 10,000 pregnancies and are usually caught early thanks to modern imaging and prenatal care. In many cases, people with stone babies remain asymptomatic and may live their entire lives without realizing the fetus is still inside them. This case underscores both the resilience of the human body and the importance of accessible, routine medical imaging for elderly populations.

A doctor in Rome just performed live cancer surgery on a patient in Beijing!

In a historic medical breakthrough, a Chinese surgical team has performed the world’s first transcontinental robotic prostate surgery, with the operating surgeon stationed in Rome and the patient located in Beijing—over 5,000 miles apart.

Utilizing ultra-fast 5G and fiber-optic connections, Dr. Zhang Xu precisely manipulated robotic instruments with sub-135 millisecond latency, allowing for seamless real-time control nearly indistinguishable from in-person procedures.

The operation, conducted at the PLA General Hospital and streamed live to a global audience of surgeons, represents a giant leap forward in telesurgery. By proving that complex procedures can be safely performed across continents, this technology opens doors to advanced care for patients in remote, underserved, or conflict-ridden regions. The future of surgery, it seems, may no longer be limited by geography.
