The organization which was founded in 1991 to be a single point of contact to report all crimes of maritime piracy and armed robbery, attributes the drop in incidents to vigorous action taken by authorities helping to bring reports to a 28-year low. The demolition yards at Alang, India received a record number of cruise and passenger ships in the past 12 months. While none of the major cruise brands have sent one of their ships directly to the ship breaking operations in India, several notable ships have arrived since November 2020 with more expected.
Just one week after severe weather from an atmospheric river system destroyed the Port of Vancouver’s rail connections to Canada, a similar weather event has struck the port of Prince Rupert, B.C. In addition to rains, this second weather system brought high winds of up to 60 knots, tearing down power lines, threatening damage to the regional hospital’s roof and delaying service for BC Ferries.
