The U.S. was deeply involved in World War II, millions of American servicemen were stationed far from home and Christmas became a painful reminder of separation.

“I’ll Be Home for Christmas” was written in 1943 specifically with American soldiers overseas in mind. The song was meant to express what soldiers wanted to say to their families, not what they were sure would happen.

Bing Crosby first performed it on radio in 1943 and it quickly resonated with soldiers and families.

Some radio stations thought it was too sad, fearing it would hurt morale

Despite that, it became one of the most requested songs by troops.

My very first episode was about Lapu-Lapu and Magellan.

Lapu-Lapu defeated Magellan in 1521. That part is clear.

Pero may isang bagay na hindi kailanman sinabi ng kasaysayan:
Ilang taon ba si Lapu-Lapu noong Labanan sa Mactan?

Bata bang mandirigma?
O isang matandang datu na nagmando mula sa malayo?

Walang edad sa tala ni Pigafetta.
Walang malinaw na sagot sa mga dokumento.
At doon nagsisimula ang myth, ang salinlahi ng kwento, at ang makabagong reinterpretation.

Episode 1 was about the battle.
Episode 100 is about the question history never answered.

“Climb Mount Niitaka.”

A simple message sent on December 2, 1941, pero ito ang go signal ng Japan para simulan ang atake sa Pearl Harbor.

Mount Niitaka was Japan’s highest mountain at the time, located in Taiwan.
Pero hindi ito tungkol sa hiking.
It was a coded command meaning:
“Proceed with the attack.”

Pagkatapos ma-receive ito, the Japanese fleet moved silently across the Pacific, preparing for the surprise strike na magbabago ng takbo ng World War II.

Short message.
Deadly meaning.
“Climb Mount Niitaka.”
