i think we as a community need to start posting "my art/drawings" videos again like we did 14 years ago. like. just a slideshow of our art with very little editing (like transitions and zooms at most) set to a song we like. those were so fun to watch back then and i find myself wanting to see them again u_u

edit addition: i have Opinions on current """content""" that's being posted compared to what ppl used to post but it all boils down to me wishing there wasnt a constant pressure to pump out videos for views and monetization rather than just..bc we find it fun?? :( like. i dont care about current art style trends or animation memes or any of that anymore, different things get popular at different times, its no biggie. ppl's preferences change. but i have noticed that theres a terrible pressure and standard in the art community--talking specifically about youtube here tho--to be The Best or have The Coolest Animations/Art Styles/Designs and it really bums me out that this is how the art community climate is nowadays.

now when i reminisce about "the old days" its less about how we used to draw/animate and what we used to post but more about how we felt/went about these things. there was no pressure. no standard. sure there were ppl we looked up to, but that was as far as it went. we werent pressured to post a billion videos a month to keep viewers, we werent super focused on making the coolest animations or art or designs, we just had fun posting what we thought was fun. and im not saying that ppl today dont find what they post fun!! thatd be silly, if they didnt think it was at least a little fun then why would they post it lol. but im just saying that i wish there was less of a stigma around making art/videos that are considered "sub-par" and i mean that in the best way possible. like ppl arent allowed to make "bad art" anymore, or have genuine fun without any strings attached.

my wife has opened my eyes today

we were on the subject of being kinda bitter abt kids "doing things wrong" when it comes to like...idk. stuff like scene or other nostalgic things, bc they werent there so what are they nostalgic for yknow. they dont do it like we used to!! and all that lol.

but my wife was like "its kinda like how ppl who werent born in the 70s/80s/90s look back on it and are interested in the time period and like to indulge in stuff relating to it" and i was like. that makes so much fucking sense. its literally the same thing.

basically all this to say i know ive been really complainy about The Kids(tm) in regards to "not being creative in the way they used to when i was their age" or whatever in the past but that is stopping now! im going to be kinder about today's generations bc i am Not about to turn into one of those bitter old "back in my day" adults who hate when kids have fun differently than they did lol ✌️ so i apologize for all dat. im checking myself more from now on

i miss when animation memes werent just tiktok audio trends. it feels like bc everything is just tiktok music the shelf life of animation memes is significantly shorter, AND theyre all...samey. like yeah memes are supposed to be repeated, but not across a billion "different" memes. theyre supposed to be Different which is part of the fun

ppl like to shit on the 2018 meme era but honestly i think it was the better era b/c at least ppl were creative with their memes and used songs that werent samey :/ it feels like today's memes are just excuses to show off character designs. theres no story or thought put behind them anymore. like, there used to be Lore Memes or at least SOME story behind memes even if they werent lore memes. i personally always make my memes with some story in mind because i just dont understand how you can make a meme without a story in mind. like..how are u supposed to have ur character relate to the song otherwise???

idk. i enjoy when ppl have fun making memes!! but i guess i dont understand how making basically the same meme over and over and over and over again is..fun??? do you not get tired... like theyre all a bobbing character with their paws up and then a shot of their features (paws, tail, wings, ears usually) and then maybe a shape. thats how they all are.

im ngl i was especially insulted by the newday2008 meme bc its literally just the nya nya dance audio with some bass boosting and THE BASIC BOBBING CHARACTER TWEENING THING. theres nothing fucking special about it unlike the original nya nya dance. you are disgracing the nya nya dance in this house..

its not that i necessarily hate these modern meme formulas for what they are--theyre easy, fun videos youre able to animate with neat songs you like. thats completely fine. its just when ppl use them as an example of "a better era of memes" compared to like 2015-2018.
