🏏 Rebuilding Pakistan Cricket: A Roadmap for the Future.
Pakistan cricket has always been rich in talent — from world-class fast bowlers to naturally gifted batters. Yet despite this potential, the system often struggles with inconsistency, poor planning, and lack of long-term vision. To compete consistently at the highest level, Pakistan cricket needs structural reforms, not temporary fixes.
1️⃣ Establish High-Performance Academies
Pakistan should have five professional cricket academies across the country, each with a foreign director to ensure international standards:
Lahore – Gary Kirsten
Karachi – Simon Katich
Islamabad – Jonathan Trott
Peshawar – Jason Gillespie
Multan – Tom Moody
Each academy must have specialist coaches for batting, fast bowling, spin bowling, fielding, strength and conditioning, mental health, and rehabilitation. Without world-class facilities, even the most talented players cannot reach their potential.
2️⃣ Strengthen the NCA and Domestic Pathways
The National Cricket Academy (NCA) should remain the hub for both current international players and future prospects. Pakistan’s U-19 and A teams should be managed by someone like Younis Khan, who can bring his own coaching staff and be given at least three years to build a proper system.
Emerging players must also tour SENA countries — South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia — more frequently to gain experience in tough conditions.
3️⃣ Women’s Cricket Needs Attention
Pakistan’s women’s cricket should also receive professional leadership. Someone like Yasir Arafat could be appointed head coach to bring modern coaching methods and international exposure.
4️⃣ National Team Coaching Structure
The men’s national team requires a head coach with strong character — someone players respect and are willing to learn from. A figure like Michael Hussey would be ideal.
Supporting staff could include:
Assistant coach: Sarfraz Ahmed
Batting coach: Hashim Amla
Fast bowling coach: Vernon Philander or James Anderson
Spin bowling coach: Rangana Herath
Fielding coach: James Foster
This setup should be given at least three years to implement without interference.
5️⃣ Chief Selector
The chief selector should be experienced, independent, and knowledgeable. Options include Rashid Latif or Aamir Sohail, ensuring selections are based on merit rather than external pressure.
Pakistan has the talent, the passion, and the resources. What it needs now is structure, patience, and honest leadership.
Give the system three years without interference, and Pakistan cricket can rise again. 🇵🇰🏏
