Take the Gloves Off! 👊

BKB Europe

ANOTHER massive signing this week !
Lucas Browne became the latest former world gloved boxing champion to pledge their future to BKB.
‘Big Daddy’ was a world-class heavyweight who will bring knockout power to the trigon.
It’s going to be fun to see what happens when he stars throwing bombs in the smallest surface area in combat sport !
Gustavo Trujillo is our heavyweight champion.
‘The Cuban Assassin’ has seven straight wins in the first round and the rest of the division is stacked with knockout specialists.
Two of them go toe to toe on BKB 45 in a couple of weeks.
Kamil Sokolowski and George Taylor only deal in first-round knockouts so it will be fun to see what happens when they throw their fists at each other in Bristol on Saturday, September 6.
Kamil said at our press day the other week: “One big punch and it’s finished – me or George.”
The stakes are high going into the fight as well.
Kamil is currently the No 1 contender for the heavyweight championship – so George could be one punch away from replacing him and getting a shot at the title.
What a fight that promises to be – while it lasts.
No wonder tickets are selling fast for Bristol. We expect another sell out where James Connelly faces Martin Reffell in the top-of-the-bill fight.
It was supposed to be Paulie Malignaggi-Tyler Goodjohn topping the bill, but Paulie was forced out through injury and the fight now goes ahead on BKB 47.
That goes ahead in Leeds on Saturday, October 18.
The action was Stateside last weekend and we saw Paty Juarez turn the tables on Khortni Kamyron in the top of the bill fight to keep her lightweight championship and deny Khortni a bit of history.
Khortni was bidding to become our first female two-weight world champion.
BKB 44 also featured Alberto Blas.
The Cuban made his debut in the trigon and it was all over in less than two minutes !
We could see Alberto face Harry Gigliotti next – and what a fight that would be !
Until next week

MARTIN Reffell is looking to put his name alongside the bareknuckle boxing greats.

The 38 year old from Peterborough faces who he describes as “a legend” of the sport in Bristol next month.

He meets James Connelly – currently ranked No 9 in the pound-for-pound lists – over five rounds at Bristol Ice Arena on Saturday, September 6.

Reffell hopes victory will lead to a shot at pound-for-pound No 1 Lorawnt T ‘Smash’ Nelson and says he’s determined to

“When I was offered the fight I thought: ‘Wow.’

“I’m there with the big boys now !

“James Connelly is an absolute legend and when I first started to watch bareknuckle I used to look up to people like him, Sean George and Tony Lafferty.

“I have nothing but respect for James. He has a lot of top end fights and this is my chance to show what I’m made of.

“I want to put my name up there with that level of fighter.

“To get in there with ‘Smash’ would me amazing, but I’m fully focused on James.

“I have to be.

“I have had some hard fights against Scott McHugh, Ryan Jett and Rolando Dy and I expect this to be the hardest.

“We are both coming off losses in world title fights so we are both looking for redemption.”

Connelly was outpointed by Nelson in a rematch last time out and Reffell was beaten by Liam ‘Rocky’ Rees when challenging for the world super-welterweight title in April.

Reffell said: “Liam was really good, but I had to cut a lot of weight.

“This (middleweight) is a better weight for me.

“I just wasn’t fuelled against Liam. I could have got up (from the sixth round knockdown), but there was nothing left in me. I would have just taken more. I was that drained. This time it will be me at 100 %.

“The engine will be there and I’m ready for all-out carnage.

“I know he can box and fight and it will come down to who wants it the most.

“I know he has said he wants the knockout, but I won’t let that happen. I’m too stubborn.

“It’s going to be some fight and afterwards we can have a beer or maybe a shot of vodka depending on how my face feels !”

Promoters BKB describe the show in Bristol as the best show they have staged.

It’s topped by Paulie Malignaggi, the former two-weight gloved champion, against Tyler Goodjohn, from Ely.

ANTHONY Scotford is going to meet one of his heroes – and then punch him in the face.
The 26 year old from Worcester is chucked in at the deep end when he continues his bareknuckle boxing career in the trigon in Bristol on Saturday, September 6.
Scotford has his second fight against former world cruiserweight champion Carl Hobley.
Hobley is on the comeback trail and Scotford admitted ahead of BKB 45: “I’m a fan of the bloke.
“I have been watching him for years and he’s always been good to watch.
“He always comes for a fight and has beaten some big names in his career.
“It would be silly to bang with him when I have skills. I know he comes in with his head down throwing big shots and I need to outbox him.”
Scotford proved he can stand his ground and trade punches on a thrilling BKB debut in Cardiff in April when he out toughed Aaron Ashton in a fight of the year contender.
There were four knockdowns in a wild opening round – with Ashton hitting the canvas three times.
Scotford went on to produce a one-punch KO in the second and insists he’s more than a rock-chinned slugger with a huge fighting heart.
“It was definitely entertaining,” laughed Scotford, who had a handful of white-collar fights before joining the biggest stable of bareknuckle boxers in the world.
“I watched it back and thought: ‘Good fight.’
“At the time you just carry on. I love fighting and I wanted to win.
“You become a different person when you get in there and when you have your hand raised afterwards it’s the most rewarding feeling.
“But it was nuts. I can box better than I showed. I’ve proved I can scrap and now I want to prove I can box.”

BRISTOL fight fans have been promised a night to remember when bareknuckle boxing comes to the city.

Paulie Malignaggi, a two-weight world champion in gloved boxing, tops the bill against Tyler Goodjohn when promoters BKB bring a show to the Ice Arena on Saturday, September 6 that also features Dean Patterson and Rob Boardman.

Patterson has the backing of his home crowd when he meets veteran Paul Hilz in a rematch and Boardman returns to the city where he lived for a decade for a heavyweight clash.

Boardman had five of his six professional gloved fights in Bristol before deciding to ditch his gloves.

The 37 year old has signed with BKB and says he will have big support when he meets Volodymyr Skurtu in bareknuckle boxing’s trigon.

“I’ve got a lot of good memories of living in Bristol,” he said, “and have had messages off people I haven’t seen for years.

“They all want to see what bareknuckle boxing is all about.

“They’ve probably watched it on telly or read about it and now they want to see it for themselves.

“The promoters made a good decision coming to Bristol. There’s a massive boxing scene there and they will love bareknuckle boxing. You are guaranteed action.”

The trigon is the smallest surface area in combat sport and there’s likely to be a knockout when Boardman and Skurtu collide.

The Ukrainian has had back-to-back first-round knockouts and Boardman says he’s hitting harder than ever.

“I’m better heavier,” he said. “There’s more of a target for me to aim at and they don’t move around as quickly.

“I have the speed and the power to do well at heavyweight.”

The show also features Devon-based Pole Kamil Sokolowski, currently ranked as No 1 challenger for heavyweight champion Gustavo Trujillo.

There’s a chance Boardman and Sokolowski could meet, but first, Boardman has to get past Skurtu.

“He’s got heavy hands,” said Boardman, “and I know I can’t be complacent.”

Boardman says that whatever happens at Planet Ice, it’s unlikely to be as hard as the night he fought George Groves.

“I fought him three times in the amateurs,” said Boardman, “and after the last one I was eating soup through a straw for a week. He had horrible power.”

BKB Europe

IT’S been another busy week for BKB !

On Tuesday we were in Bristol for a press day ahead of BKB 44 there on Saturday, September 6.

Then we headed up to Leeds the following day for another press day.

We are back in Yorkshire very soon

We sold out when we went to Leeds for the first time last October and we are confident Bristol will sell out as well.

Bristol is a fabulous fighting city with a history of turning out top gloved boxers and the signs are the public are going to get behind BKB.

There’s been plenty of interest in the rematch between local fighter Dean Patterson and Paul Hilz.

There was a feisty build up to their first fight in Wolverhampton on BKB 38 in March.

Dean fancied he would send Paul into retirement – but Paul beat him inside two rounds.

Dean asked for the rematch and Paul isn’t the sort to turn down a fight !

He won’t be bothered by fighting in Dean’s backyard either. Paul is as tough as old boots.

Rob Boardman is another local fighter in action in Bristol.

He was based there in his pro gloved boxing career and returns after signing with the top bareknuckle boxing company in the world.

Rob is up at heavyweight for what promises to be an explosive fight with Volodymyr Skurtu and there’s more heavyweight action when Kamil Sokolowski and George Taylor meet.

Kamil is currently ranked the No 1 contender for world heavyweight champion Gustavo Trujillo so he’s risking a possible world-title shot in Bristol.

Also on BKB 44, Carl Hobley, the former world cruiserweight champion, returns to face Anthony Scotford – and what a fight that should be !

Carl has a no-nonsense style that made him a fans’ favourite and Anthony’s debut for us was one of the fights of the year.

There was amazing up-and-down drama when he went toe to toe with Aaron Ashton in Cardiff in March and expect more of the same in Bristol.

Ashley Williams was also at the press day in Bristol and happy to talk – as always !

Ashley has got the big fight he wanted. He meets Pablo Caballero in New York on September 27 and sees the fight as a stepping stone to a world-title shot.

Only Harold McQueen has beaten Caballero so far and he’s now world featherweight champion.

McQueen tops the bill in New York when he defends his belt against Yampier Ramirez – and Ashley wants a shot at the winner.

Until next week

BKB is heading to the Big Apple !
For the first time we take the trigon to New York in September for BKB 46.
Top of the bill on September 27 features Harold ‘Lightning’ McQueen defending his featherweight belt against knockout specialist Yampier Ramirez.
‘Lightning’ says his ambition is to go down in history as a three-weight world champion while Yampier could be a new star of our sport.
The 21 year old from Cuba is 3-0 – all by KO.
He also has seven straight KOs in pro gloved boxing.
Yampier earned his title shot in style, against former champion Brandon Birr on BKB 41.
He was down in the first, cut and on his way to defeat – and then he started to land his left hook.
He sent Brandon down twice in the second round and now gets a shot at the belt.
Before that we go to Bristol for the first time for BKB 45 and that looks to be heading for another sell out.
September 6 is still six weeks away – but we are already short of tickets.
If you want to be there, get your tickets fast because they won’t be around for much longer !
BKB 45 features former UFC star Jack Marshman against KO King Dan Lerwell and the much anticipated clash between Paulie Malignaggi and Tyler Goodjohn.
Paulie and Tyler bring plenty of class to the trigon and there’s been huge interest in their fight from combat sports fans around the world.
Paulie signing up to BKB was big news and there have been more signings over the last week.
UFC and Invicta veteran Vivian “Sucuri” Pereira has signed a multi-fight deal and James Albert is the latest to swap a career in pro gloved boxing for the trigon.
James won eight of his 10 pro gloved fights (one draw) and joins our growing stable from the North West of England.
Dan Catlin made a similar switch and we look forward to seeing the Central Area middleweight champion in action in the trigon soon.
There’s a change to the top of the bill on BKB 44 in Denver on August 16.
Gregoris Cisneros is unable to compete and Tommy Turner steps in to face undefeated Michael Santos.
Until next week

COALVILLE man mountain Tyrone Eliffe has put his name alongside Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois.
Joshua and Dubois both chinned Dorian Darch on their way to the top of the world and Eliffe did the same in bareknuckle boxing’s trigon on Saturday night.
The 6ft 8ins puncher got the job done quicker than Joshua and Dubois as well, knocking out the hard-as-nails Welshman in the opening round.
In an emotional post-fight interview, Eliffe then hinted he could now retire.
“I’m stopping fighting,” he said. “I’m hanging them up for a bit.”
Eliffe had his chin tested before he put Darch on his knees for the full count.
‘Bad To The Bone’ had riled had riled Darch with social media posts in the build up to the fight – and the fired-up Welshman threw himself at him at the opening bell, hurling rights at his chin.
Eliffe took the ones that landed well and then started to land his own punches. He caught Darch with a jolting left-right that took something out of him and then started to punish him with jabs from both stances.
Blood leaked from Darch’s nose and his left eye started to swell as Eliffe found his rhythm.
He was comfortable enough to showboat in front of Darch before sending him to his knees with a hard jab.
Eliffe admitted afterwards:” I don’t know what I’m doing in there. I make it up as I go along.”
There was defeat for Leicester fighter Liam Howells in Bolton.
He rolled the dice to take on Hall-of-Fame fighter Scott McHugh in only his second bareknuckle fight – and was on the brink of a stunning result in the opening round.
Howells had McHugh down with a precise right-hand counter to the jaw before being dropped by a similar punch for the full count in the next.

DAVID Winiarski called for bareknuckle boxing bosses to take the sport to Scotland after another knockout win in Bolton.
The 31 year old from Kelty roared: “Let’s get one up in Scotland” after knocking out Bogdan Suru inside two rounds.
The outclassed Romanian was down three times.
Winiarski has now won all three fights with promoters BKB and called for a fight with Hall-of-Fame fighter James Connelly next.
He said: “I want a champion or a contender next. I’m in contention for a title shot now.”
Winiarski and Eryk Majda are the only Scottish fighters on the BKB roster, but the promoters have shown a willingness to take shows around the UK this year to new venues.
Previously, the O2 Arena was their base, but shows in Wolverhampton, Leeds and now Bolton have all sold out in recent months and an all-action show in Scotland would surely get the same response from the public.

LIAM McElhinney powered to a huge win on his bareknuckle boxing debut in Bolton.
The 29 year old from Aylesbury was thrown in at the deep end against Hayden Sherriff.
Sherriff is a veteran of nearly 1,00 fights in all combat sports, including nine bareknuckle boxing fights.
He is wanted by professional gloved boxing managers and had the backing of his home crowd at the Hideout.
McElhinney has fought mostly in MMA and made a smooth switch to the trigon.
He trained in Peterborough with top bareknuckle fighter Martin Reffell in the build up and thanked him after thrashing Sherriff inside two rounds.
McElhinney worked effectively on the inside in the opening round, battering Sheriff’s ribs with barrages of punches.
He kept the combinations coming in the second round and Sherriff dramatically dropped to the canvas.
McElhinney went for the finish after the fight resumed and overwhelmed Sherriff with another two-fisted volley of punches that sent him to the floor for a second time and it was waved off.
McElhinney said afterwards: “We knew he was a good boxer, but I was too strong.”

ALEX Wilson was a one-punch winner in his latest bareknuckle boxing match.
Wilson planned to impress promoters BKB in the hope they may take him to the United States to fight – and the 29 year old from Cleckheaton surely made the impression he wanted.
He was matched with Braidie-Lee Harkett in Bolton and was simply too good for him.
Harkett is known for having a big fighting heart and showed it in the opening round to drag himself off the canvas three times as the more polished Wilson teed off on him.
Wilson’s punches also raised a swelling around Harkett’s left eye by the end of the round, but the Canterbury slugger still came out for the second.
Wilson finished the fight in sensational style.
The fighters clinched early in the second and Wilson brought a right uppercut under Harkett’s chin.
The effective of the punch was devastating as Harkett dropped onto his back.
The referee decided to wave the fight off instantly.
