WDYWTK is a song is about the quiet, hidden pain of somebody who loved a family that felt out of reach. It’s the story of someone who gave of themselves over and over, holding on through loss, while remaining an outsider in the lives of those they wanted to protect. In the face of silence and distance, real love holds on—keeping a door open, hoping for a reunion that never comes. A tribute to anyone who loves, despite the ache of never fully belonging.
For your lunch break today! i mean if you’re near my time zone, idk…or a breakfast break maybe…or dinner if you’re the other way…ok nevermind it doesn’t have to be meal-related at all, really. Ok forget the whole thing.
I’ve been releasing a song a month since June, and I have no plans to stop! “Believers” drops tomorrow.
It is one of my favorite songs from the new stuff I’ve been making. The layered crunchy guitars, the simple synth over rotating chords, electronic sounds intertwined with rock n roll, and the subject matter. Its sort of a “Tower of Babel” song. All of this incredible technology, magical progress, utopian vision…it could collapse in an instant. Are we too confident?
To some of us, this all adds up. Everything is fine! But to others it all adds up in a different sense, it compiles and builds until it’s massive, until it’s straining upon it’s own foundations.
I watch the terrible hurricane destruction, I see the wars, I watch chaos that so easily erupts in American streets, I watch AI get stronger and stranger, politics that seem hopeless, inflation and tech and addiction and I’m reminded how easily we can lose everything. We live on a veneer of civilization. If that crumbles, will we be ready? Will we be ok? So this song is a reminder not to be too confident in everything we build. It might be incredible, but nothing lasts forever.
Nothing lasts forever…that was the theme of my previous song too. As far as release schedule goes, Believers is paired with Head Up intentionally. Head Up is the lyrical antidote to the sickness that Believers is diagnosing. The two songs have a similar vibe and intertwined lyrics. If this song tears at your confidence in the system, Head Up was made to build your confidence in yourself to get through tough times and rebuild.
So tomorrow, if you put those two songs together, you’ll have a sort of yin and yang in musical form.
It’s been 1 year since the terrible events of October 7 and the horrific aftermath. After witnessing the destruction and death, I felt moved to create this cover of “Imagine” by John Lennon, to give the song a harder edge. Like maybe it needs to be amplified a little louder or something. I don’t know. It seems that even after all these years, so many people still can’t hear the message. What if we rose above religion and country and possessions and power? What if we embraced our common humanity? Is that vision possible? I want to believe it is.
To all suburban parents who commute to work for a big company, scoop kitty litter, hang out in the family room, and look after the yard, all while still loving rock n roll: I’m here for you. I’m J. Zito and this is my music. It’s all here on my channel, with lots more in the way! #indiemusic#songwriter#newrockmusic#dadrock#alternativemusic
