“the movie crucible” this “national theatre crucible” that YOURE ALL WRONG even tho there is no full version to back this up unlike the other two this scene alone is enough for me to determine that the globes version is the peakest
“why are cynthia & ariana always so emotional in interviews and so touchy with e/o it’s not that deep” clearly none of yall have done theatre and become insanely familial with your castmates and it shows because as someone who just spent this whole weekend crying over how much i loved the people involved in my hs production of the crucible i understand completely why they would act like that because imagine landing the role of an absolute lifetime & becoming one of the definitive versions of those characters and having to live through days of filming where you are intertwined with these people, like yeah id be overcome with emotion & attachment with my castmates too tf

im sorry but i did NOT watch THE lams say no to this animatic ON MY TV when i was 11 just for people to start calling hamilton “pretty girl humor” because what
i love movies about broadway / musicals taking place in nyc like wdym my favorite store in nyc (theater circle in times square across from the majestic theater) gets a cameo in the 2014 The Last Five Years movie behind a subway sign advertising Jamie’s book (crazy how many times i’ve walked by that subway sign when i go to ny w/o knowing it was apart of an absolute peak musical)
so basically in take a break, there are a few references dropped in regards to The Scottish Play (my theatre kid ass will NOT be saying the actual name even if i’m not in a theater, if you don’t know its name its the end of the lyric “they think me _”), and some ppl theorize that ham name-dropping the titular character while living in a theatrical performance is a meta way of foreshadowing how his whole life is being ruined
but a funny detail relating to this that ppl never mention is that angelica makes a callback to this. during the part where eliza & angelica overlap lyrics, she says “screw your courage to the stinking place”, which most ppl pass off as a reference to that lyric being used in a song from beauty & the beast, but it’s actually also a line from act 1 scene 7 of the scottish play (line shown in pic 2).
it’s neat bc it shows the way ham & angelica bounce off of e/o intellectually, with ham making a mildly pretentious theatre reference abt him not liking what’s happening at work, and angelica hitting him right back with the reference as a way to convince him to break from said work. also this may be overstepping but i think it also has some underlying hamgelica vibes bc the line is originally delivered by Lady Macbeth to her husband, who hamilton refers to himself as earlier on (basically angelica acting as ham’s wife in the parallel)
gang can we learn the difference between “underrated” and “nonexistent fandom” that would be really cool gang
like no a chorus line, les mis, phantom, cabaret, chicago, west side story, rent, etc are not underrated musicals. in fact they are some of the most important to the history of musical theatre and their relevance in the culture is very clear, just bc they aren’t talked abt as much as the popular modern musicals on the internet does not make them underrated. can we pls acknowledge actually underrated musicals with no representation in these conversations instead of bringing up some of the biggest names in the community js bc they don’t have a designated fandom bc that’d be great
long story short if it has an entire exhibit in the museum of broadway dedicated to it, it isn’t underrated
