I just want to thank all of you for your kind words during our family's time of grieving with the loss of my father. It's kind of overwhelming everything we have to get done before his funeral. Which is this friday Mar 13th. Then driving back to Texas is a 26 hour trip. Just a lot to deal with

Well sad news my dad passed away friday afternoon. We got word as we are driving to upstate NY. Because we have the great hope in the Lord we have a peace about his passing as he has been healed and in heaven praising our Lord and Savior.

This is good info to be prepared for!

Temporary Water Disinfectant Change – February 2026
The City of Harker Heights will temporarily change the disinfectant type used in our public water system as part of routine water quality maintenance.

From February 1 through February 28, 2026, the Harker Heights Public Water System (PWS ID #0140023) will convert from chloramine to free chlorine. During this time, some residents may notice a slight change in the taste or odor of their water. This is normal and temporary.

Public water systems are required to maintain proper disinfection to ensure safe drinking water. While chloramine is commonly used because it lasts longer in the system, a short-term switch to free chlorine, along with system flushing, helps clean distribution pipes, control bacterial growth, and maintain overall water quality.
This temporary conversion is a standard maintenance practice and is not related to a water quality violation.

So I will have a video coming out on this Hygger Back Pack filter which I really love. But... I need to make a modification to it. Because it plugs up my pre filter rather quickly. My tank is heavily planted and has a lot of mulm on the bottom of the tank. So the suction tube only pulls straight from the bottom. So look for this video coming out to show you how I remedy this issue.

So a question to the fishy folks. So I did some source water testing today. Im finding the water coming out the tap has both nitrites and nitrates in it at a moderate levels. I tested this because this tank ive been working on has struggled with high nitrites and nitrates even after big water changes. Now this is a very old building and the plumbing is nothing modern. So would putting a carbon filter help clean up the water before it goes in the tank? Or is there something better other than doing RODI because that isn't an option here. Please let me know what you think i could do to help the water.
