Why is the urban middle class increasingly communal and toxic in its politics across South Asia?
In Bangladesh's recent election, Jamaat-e-Islami performed strongly in Dhaka (winning several seats) despite a nationwide drubbing.
Similarly, India's urban middle class has consistently backed BJP & the Sangh Parivar's communal agenda.
What happened to the cosmopolitanism and humanitarian values that once defined middle-class education and identity?

When thousands of lives are lost on our roads over just four years — solely because of potholes — it reveals a chilling level of callousness and inhumanity in our governance.

I fail to understand how Indian media is amplifying one MP's absurd proposal to permanently disqualify @RahulGandhi
from contesting elections.
No institution has the right to bar a citizen from elections unless they're convicted of a crime or proven insane.
Parliament can at best expel a member for the current term — which is itself undemocratic. An elected representative should never be thrown out of the House of the People.
Under what rule or law can Parliament even investigate so-called "foreign links" of RAGA?
This motion deserved brutal questioning and outright rejection as pure bravado.
Instead, the media screamed headlines that Gandhi must be punished.
Such brain-dead, sensationalist media is a real danger to democracy.
( The headlines in Odia media on this was insane.)

I'm genuinely worried Indian media might soon portray Jeffrey Epstein—the convicted child sex trafficker—as some kind of 'Mahapurush'.
Welcome to the surreal world of new-age Indian journalism.
