Ryan Dunn was not in Jackass 2.5 because a life-threatening blood clot from a stunt, followed by Lyme disease, caused him to become depressed and withdraw from the cast for a period. He declined to participate in interviews or commentary for the film, though he is featured in archive footage. He eventually reconnected with the cast for Jackass 3D.
Health issues: During the filming of Jackass: The Movie (the first film), Dunn suffered a serious blood clot after a stunt, which was followed by a Lyme disease diagnosis.
Depression and withdrawal: The health problems and their aftermath led to depression, causing him to cut off contact with many of his friends and cast mates for a couple of years.
Jackass 2.5 and footage: He was not available for new material in Jackass 2.5 due to his condition and withdrawal, but he was included through older, archive footage.
Return to the franchise: Dunn eventually recovered and reconnected with his friends, returning to the Jackass franchise for Jackass 3D.
