Solder balls on the bottom of BGAs, solder run-through on the sides of QFNs, tiny voids and cracks—these details invisible to the naked eye are revealed one by one by STHL using X-Ray.

What happens when a PCB design file lacks a Board Outline Layer?



During the PCB manufacturing quotation stage, engineers often focus on technical parameters such as layer count, trace width, and via diameter. However, an easily overlooked detail—the absence of a Board Outline Layer—can trigger a chain reaction in subsequent production. Although it doesn't directly affect cost during quotation, its absence in actual production is like a building blueprint lacking exterior wall markings, leading to a series of "hidden crises."





It is worth considering: When we pursue smaller linewidths and higher layer counts, should we also give the same design rigor to "physical boundaries"?
