Award-winning hiking, backpacking, and travel films by the world's most well-known Death Valley adventure hiker. Covering Death Valley NP, other National Parks, the South Pacific, the Arctic, and other beautiful places around the world.
Here is the first look at my brand new guidebook, titled "50 Death Valley Adventure Hikes". It will be released in mid-2026 in plenty of time for the Fall hiking season. For this guidebook, I wanted to keep things simple and share only my personal favorite most-loved hikes in Death Valley. Even with just doing that, this book will run some 325 pages in length. Only a few of the hikes listed have been covered by other sources, so this book will make a great supplement to information already published. You won't see places like Golden Canyon or Marble Canyon covered. Much work still needs to be done. But the guidebook is coming along and I've made every effort to make it high quality and easy to understand for the casual reader. I'm also really happy with how my topographical route maps are looking. Here is a link if you would like to see a larger image of the book cover art:
Aug/Sept 2025 channel update. Just a short note to let you all know that I have been nursing an Achilles injury that has sidelined me from hiking for a couple months. I'm hoping to return with some hiking in the Cook Islands in Nov. and Death Valley in Dec. if all goes well with recovery. In the meantime, I took the time to re-edit and update my 2007 novel "A Young Princess" and 2012 novel "A Young Queen" and release 2nd editions of those worldwide in paperback and Kindle formats. At the same time, I'm finishing up writing on the third novel "Majestic Times", which upon its release in Feb. 2026 will complete my Young Princess trilogy. Professional audiobook versions are coming for all three books, with the first one releasing in November. As part of the promotion for the re-release of "A Young Princess", I've produced a few audio/visual storytelling experience videos which I will publish here on the channel. If you enjoy these, please consider supporting me at the following links.
June/July 2025 channel update. I just returned home from filming some brand new hiking videos in the Austral Islands, which I hope to release weekly. There will be four new videos showcasing hikes and other interesting places within the Australs. Pictured here is a hike to Monster's Cave on Rurutu.
May 2025 channel update. I am happy to announce that "Fall-Red Wall Loop: Death Valley Adventure 7" with a runtime of 1 hour 27 minutes will be released on Friday, May 30. This was my final Death Valley hike of the season and the film turned out really well. I hope you like it. Going into the Death Valley off-season, I will be heading to the Austral Islands of French Polynesia to film some hiking and snorkeling videos there on four different islands. So I look forward to sharing more info about that later.
Apr. 2025 channel update. I was recently interviewed by NY Times/USA Today bestselling author J.F. Penn for her Books & Travel podcast. You can watch the interview here on YT at https://youtu.be/1LsNlmR3E8o?si=-SyOF... or you can listen to it on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and other places. J.F. Penn recently wrote and released a fictional thriller novel set within Death Valley so it was neat to discuss all things Death Valley with her.
On another note, my new film Funeral Mountains: Death Valley Adventure 6 is finished and will be shared soon. It is 1 hour 35 minutes in length. I'm really happy with the film and it was quite an awesome 3-day adventure.
Mar. 2025 channel update. Last month while working in Death Valley NP at the Furnace Creek Visitor Center and hosting my telescope at a viewing station during the Dark Sky Festival (see 1st image for a picture), I also managed to get in a little bit of hiking. As part of this, I filmed a brand new feature-length film which will be entitled "Funeral Mountains: Death Valley Adventure 6". I'm really excited to share this film with you by mid-April once it is finished. It turned out to be quite an enjoyable and challenging 3-day solo route (see 2nd image for a picture). Before that, I'll be releasing my final Death Valley Discoveries episode of the season. It's a shorter video which covers Room Canyon. But I also plan to return to Death Valley one more time this hiking season to film one more feature-length Adventure film. More on that later.
Feb. 2025 channel update. Thank you to all of my new subscribers as I finally passed 3,000 subs. I've recently put out some new episodes of Death Valley Discoveries and have one more filmed. It will be released later as I'm actually on my way back to Death Valley to work at the Dark Sky Festival Feb 21 & 22. I will be working in the Furnace Creek Visitor Center during the day and then hosting my Celestron Origin at a telescope viewing station at night. So come on out to Death Valley and check out the stars if you'd like. I'm also hoping to film a brand new Death Valley Adventure feature length film next week. Here is a current photo of me taken in my hometown of Sonoma, CA.
Jan. 2025 channel update. Thank you to everyone who recently watched my Baffin Island film and subscribed. My favorite places when it comes to hiking are the Arctic, South Pacific, and Death Valley NP. Last month, I filmed Episodes 15-20 of Death Valley Discoveries, so those will be coming next on my channel. Here is a picture taken in a place I'm calling Collage Canyon in the Grapevine Mountains (from Ep. 15). Also, be sure to watch my recent film on Kaupo Gap to see Michelle and I doing a legendary hike in Haleakala NP on Maui.
Nov. 2024 channel update. I recently filmed "Panamint Mountains: Death Valley Adventure 5" which features 32 hours of backpacking through the Panamints in 3 days (see included picture). I also filmed Death Valley Discoveries Episode 14 out in the Owlsheads (a 2-day 36-mile backpack). Both will be coming soon to the channel. These were two of the hardest yet most special backpacking routes I've ever done in Death Valley.
Oct. 2024 channel update. I recently returned from Maui (see included image), where Michelle and I filmed a new 2-day backpacking video to be called "Haleakalā NP: Backpacking Kaupō Gap". The film is finished. It is 45 minutes long and will be released in early November. Before then, I will be publishing a personal video for my family members of a slideshow in remembrance of my mom. And also, my two Hiking Palau videos. The two Palau videos are entitled "5 Short Hikes on Palau: Hiking Palau part 1" and "German Lighthouse on the Rock Islands: Hiking Palau part 2". The second one is a really cool video.
