On this day 38 years ago - Nov 17th, 1986 - Dark Angel's second studio album was released: Darkness Descends. This marked the first Dark Angel album to feature Gene Hoglan on drums. This album was also the last to feature vocalist Don Doty.

44 years ago today, on October 28th, 1981, the course of heavy metal changed forever. Metallica was born when drummer Lars Ulrich and vocalist/guitarist James Hetfield got together to jam with bassist Ron McGovney. Hetfield had answered a newspaper ad Ulrich placed seeking “other metal musicians.” Not long after, Dave Mustaine joined on lead guitar, and the group recorded their first demo, No Life ’Til Leather. Before long the classic lineup began to take shape; Cliff Burton replaced McGovney on bass, and Kirk Hammett stepped in for Mustaine - setting the stage for Metallica’s first three legendary albums and a new era in metal history.
