A lot of people who know me personally know I like to write poetry, but today I tried my hand at writing a story devotional,
The Turning Machine

In the corner of an old workshop stood a curious wooden machine. It looked half like a potter’s wheel, half like a carnival ride, carved with patterns of lilies, lions, and sparrows.
Its gears creaked with the music of time, as though every turn had been winding since the beginning of creation.

When you stepped into its circle, sunlight poured through slats above, striking your skin in warm rays. But this was no ordinary sun—where the light touched, shapes began to bloom.
A sunflower unfurled across your shoulder. A butterfly spread its wings along your arm.
A fox leapt into motion down your side.

These weren’t tattoos or marks of fashion.
They were signs, as if the sun had revealed what was already written deep within you.
Each design told a piece of your story: courage you didn’t know you had, gentleness waiting to be offered, faith that would hold steady in storms.

And it was then you remembered:
“For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:13-14).

The machine didn’t create the designs—it only turned you toward the light so they could be seen.
Just as life’s turning seasons and God’s steady hand reveal what He planted in you from the very beginning.
