I'm looking to create something different. I'm not looking to take a photo of the same thing that everyone else is, or at least not in the same way.

Have you seen a video of photographers lining up & jockeying for a position to take a photo of Mesa Arch at sunrise? Honestly, it doesn't look like all that much fun, although I'd go in a heartbeat, given the chance.

But if I was there, what would I be doing differently than the guy or gal standing next to me? And how would I process it differently?

I'm Dennis Caskey - Photographic Artist - Searching for the art in phoTogRAphy. Won't you join me in my quest?

From a bit of a warmer December than this one, 2020 I think. Decided to make a #SelectiveColor / #ColorSplash from it.

Taken a couple of weeks ago right before peak color hit. Let's call it a near miss, but pretty nonetheless. 😏

I've decided to re-open my Etsy store. I've come to realize that not everyone wants to buy from some random website and prefers a more well known marketplace. I don't have much listed yet, but what I do have is 25% off right now.

Taken 10 miles away from the bridge, the Hunter's Super Moon rising over Mackinac Bridge. An awesome spectacle to watch. The panorama is stitched together from 5 separate shots. It definitely pushed my computer passed it's limits more than once.

My last shot from 10/10, that wonderous magical night of color. I saved this one until last because it is my favorite of all from that night. It's a panorama stitched together from 4 separate shots.

Sharing a calm sunrise over the Blue Ridge Mountains with you all from last December. It’s a little dark, but I wanted to keep the sun from being too bright. Check out the two panorama crops I posted—one in 2:1 and the other in 3:1. I’d love to know which one you prefer! 🌄

Feel free to share this post with your friends. And thanks so much if you do. 😊

I finally made it out for one of the big (or should I say 'huge') Aurora events this year. Yesterday, when I saw the notifications coming through about how big this one could be, my wife and I started packing to head north to some dark skies. So glad we did. What an amazing display! I couldn't believe what was before my eyes. The colors... The shimmering lights... It was unbelievable!

This is a two shot vertical panorama, which essentially made it a square shot. Taken at 10:15pm just northeast of Reed City, MI.

Nikon D3200 (my D850 is still out for repairs😢)
Sigma 24-105mm lens @24mm (I wish I had a wider angle lens on nights like these 😎)
ISO 3200, f4, 10 seconds

Due to the devastation caused by Hurricanes Helene, the Blue Ridge Parkway is now closed indefinitely. My heart goes out to everyone affected, especially those who call this beautiful region home.

The situation has me reflecting on my own time spent in the VA-NC area last December. During that trip, we had the privilege of driving the Blue Ridge Parkway at sunrise, marveling at the breathtaking views.

This shot was captured during one of those sunrise outings.

My prayers go out to all those impacted by Hurricane Helene & and those about to be affected by Hurricane Milton—the families, communities, and the relief workers on the front lines.

Sometimes, it’s in the quiet stillness of a sunset that we find the brightest beacons of hope.
