Former NZ SAS Lead Psychologist Dr Alia Bojilova shared her extraordinary experiences in Syria with the NZ Defence Force (including being kidnapped by an armed rebel group).
She also broke down her PhD research on resilience, and what we can all learn from working in extreme, high-pressure environments as a UN military observer.
Fun fact: she’s married to former NZ SAS operator and past guest Jamie Pennell, making them potentially NZ's most interesting couple.
We’ve re-released the episode this week for new listeners, or anyone who wants to dive back into her incredible story.
Watch or listen wherever you get podcasts!
Steve and Seamus are proudly dressed by Barkers - though not in this photo, where they were definitely in need of some fashion help. 👕

One of our favourite guests ever is BACK on the show!
Laura McGoldrick lives one of the busiest lives in New Zealand media - juggling motherhood, broadcasting, live sport, travel, and a calendar that barely leaves room to breathe.
She returns to the podcast to take us behind the scenes of her career, and her calendar.

Steve and Seamus are proud to be dressed by Barkers.
Russell Packer’s life changed on a dime - a shocking incident took him from NRL star, to spending time in prison.
What happened after this was incredible: A fight to rebuild his life, an MBA from a top business school, business, and raising a child with autism.
If you only know Russell from the headlines, this is his full story.
We first released this episode in 2023, and it’s one we’ve always felt more people needed to hear, so we’re re-releasing it today in full.
Listen now on all podcast platforms, or watch the full episode on YouTube.
Steve and Seamus are proudly dressed by Barkers - though not in this 2023 photo, where their wardrobes were still in the ‘before’ stage. Barkers has since delivered the ‘after.’
Big thanks again to Russell for trusting us with his story.
Geoff Ross built 42Below from his garage and took it to the world.
He’s named some of NZ’s biggest brands, helped shaped entire sectors - and now he’s running a carbon-positive high country farm.
But this chat isn’t just about big wins. We talk about the Country Calendar backlash, the toll of being first, near-death moments in the ocean, and what it takes to stay curious and driven after you've "made it."

Three years since our first chat, Ryan Fox returns - and a lot has changed.
On paper, it looked like an incredible time for Foxy, Wins in Europe, A PGA Tour card, two wins on the PGA Tour! But behind the scenes, life wasn't always quite as rosy.
We're so stoked to have Ryan back on the pod, he was so generous with his time - and as always, delivers the most incredible yarns.
- A budding bromance with Rory - The trip of his dreams to Augusta National - The brutality of having to leave family at home for work - The importance of home
A belter of an episode, watch and listen now wherever you get your podcasts!
We're also excited to announce that Steve and Seamus are proud to be dressed by Barkers!
Today is the sixth birthday of the Between Two Beers podcast and probably a good time to reflect on a wild ride.
It started in a Hamilton garage, with a cheap microphone, a shitty laptop, a lot of booze and an audience size you could count on both hands.
And today, it’s our full-time job, or more accurately, our dream job - where weeks and months are full of pinch-me moments.
And last week featured one of the best.
One of the greatest golfers in the world and possibly New Zealand’s most ‘in demand’ sporting personalty, Ryan Fox, travelled to sit with us for 2.5 hours in our new custom built studio in Hamilton. Then after recording, we set up a chipping competition in our new office (and wait till you see the results!!)
If someone had shown me the paragraph above six years ago, I would have lost it.
It’s a bit ‘Un-Kiwi’ to celebrate your own success (and I think Seamus is actually allergic to it), but enough guests have encouraged its importance to us - that its time for a celebratory toast.
Cheers to the next six - and thanks so much for all your support 🍻
