North Highland Piru (NHP) emerged in the North Highland neighborhood of north Oklahoma City during the late 1980s and early 1990s. A 1991 Oklahoma gang intelligence report identified North Highlands Piru Posse (NHP) as a Blood/Piru-affiliated group in the North Highlands area and noted that it was composed of members from the 456, LimeHood, TreeTop and CBG (City Boy Gangsters) Bloods.

The Murder One Bloods (M1) are a Blood-affiliated street gang associated with the Spencer/Oklahoma City area. M1 trace their origins to the 1980s, when members connected to California Blood sets reportedly brought the affiliation to Oklahoma. M1 became involved in longstanding rivalries with Crip-affiliated groups and was part of the broader street-gang activity that affected parts of the Oklahoma City metro area during the late 20th century. the M1 Bloods has also identified different generations of members over time, commonly referred to as the 1st Generation, 2nd Generation, 3rd Generation, 4th Generation, and the current 5th Generation. Their history is often discussed in relation to the development of gang culture in Spencer and northeast Oklahoma City.

During the early 1980s, Crips spread into Oklahoma from Los Angeles. The 107 Hoover Crips were among the first to establish themselves in North Tulsa before expanding to other parts of the state. Soon after, Neighborhood Crip sets also emerged, bringing the Hoover vs. Neighborhood Crip rivalry from Los Angeles into Oklahoma. By the late 1980s and early 1990s, the Shotgun Crips had also arrived in Oklahoma City. They formed a close alliance with the local Hoover sets, often referred to as the "ShottyVerz," and were known for standing together against rival Neighborhood Crip sets as well as Piru and Blood gangs. As these groups grew throughout the 1980s and 1990s, they helped shape much of Oklahoma's street gang landscape, with many of the rivalries lasting for decades.
