Sojoug Park,

“All you can eat!” and “Give me meat!” — those two phrases (in Mandarin!)pretty much sum up the whole masterclass 🤣🤣🤣. He was seriously starving because he hadn’t eaten all day, but I have no idea who taught him those… very unique phrases. Aside from saying “thank you,” those were basically the only Chinese words he kept repeating 🫨.

After the clinic and playing together, my biggest takeaway is that he’s truly got his own style. It’s not that he’s trying to be different — he genuinely doesn’t care what others think and just does his own thing. During our jam, he kept shouting that he wanted to play a million notes! and that we should all play a million notes! with him. Maybe that’s because he spends all his time at home practicing while watching Dragon Ball Z? His playing really has that Super Saiyan kind of energy.

But jokes aside, his hand speed is probably the fastest I’ve ever seen — absolutely insane. And it’s not just random shredding either; when he was demonstrating, he built everything live in a loop. If it were just empty chops, you’d spot it right away, but his time feel is rock solid.

Can’t wait to play with him again — hopefully in Tokyo or Hong Kong around March or April. It’s going to be wild!

Typing this takes forever — maybe I’ll make a YouTube video later to share the full story.

#bubbylewis #masterclass

The journey of making music is always full of surprises — especially when you get to perform with different kinds of musicians. That’s when the real excitement kicks in.
This Friday! Before heading off to tour with Snoop Dogg, the Japan-based bassist Bubby Lewis is coming to Taipei to host a bass masterclass, and I’m truly honored to be invited by the organizer, Kenny, to perform together with him.
To be honest, bassists like Bubby — who combine incredible technical mastery and a deep sense of groove — are extremely rare. His chops are so powerful that just scrolling through his Instagram makes it obvious. It’s not showing off — it’s just how he breathes. Effortless to the point of absurdity. But when he locks into the pocket, it’s so deep it pulls you in. And the way he chooses his notes — you can tell his harmonic understanding is no joke. He’s seriously on another level. The bass in his hands is like a toy, fully alive.
I’ve played with countless bassists across pop, jazz, and everything in between — but someone as complete and expressive as Bubby is truly one of a kind. I’m genuinely excited for the show.

October 31 — highly recommended for all musicians!Come listen to a true master share his stories, his approach, and his way of playing music. You’ll walk away feeling inspired — guaranteed.

When I was little, my dad loved to sing this song called “Ali Baba” in my ear. So that melody’s been stuck in my head ever since—and all this time, I thought it was something he made up himself. And then I just grew up with it, without ever thinking too much about it…

Thirty-something years later, I got a new tour offer. As usual, when I received the Dropbox link with the song list, I started doing my charting work.

First song: “10 Minutes 12 Inches.” I thought, what kind of weird song title is that? Weird’s fine, but it’s so long! Then, as I was listening—suddenly I heard, “Ali~ Ali Baba!”

What the heck?! Wait, what?! No way—this is the “Ali Baba” my dad used to sing to me when I was a kid! I actually teared up right there.

And that was just the beginning. As I kept preparing, more songs popped up—“酒咁通賣無,” “男兒當自強,” “瀟灑走一回,” “選擇”… way too many to name.

About half a year ago, we started rehearsals back in May. In all my years in the business, I’ve never had a concert production start rehearsing this early. (Sure, there are usually long prep periods, but I mean the band rehearsing—and with the artists, too!) The two of them joined us on the second day.

A lot of people were curious why we started so early. They said they wanted everyone to really live with the songs—so that by the time the concert came around, we could truly enjoy and play the music on stage, instead of just staring at charts like session players.

The result? These past five shows were pure joy. Everyone went absolutely wild 🤘🏻

Five concerts down, and our tour’s only just begun! Next stop: Foshan. See you all in November!
