The most dangerous salary isn’t a low salary.

It’s a comfortable one.

You earn enough to stop looking for something better. The bills are paid. The weekend plans happen. Swiggy doesn’t require a financial committee meeting.

Life is… fine.

And “fine” is where careers can quietly get stuck.

Because when a job is terrible, you do something about it. You switch. You learn. You negotiate. You take risks.

But when the salary is decent and the job is tolerable, there’s no emergency.

So another year passes.

Your salary goes up 8%. Your designation gets one extra word. Your LinkedIn gets a celebratory promotion post.

But your actual market value?

Maybe that barely moved.

This is why I think career growth shouldn’t only be measured by what you earn today.

Ask yourself:

If my company disappeared tomorrow, would the market pay me significantly more for the person I’ve become over the last two years?

That question is slightly uncomfortable.

Good.

Because sometimes the biggest career risk isn’t being underpaid.

It’s being paid just enough to stop growing.

“There are no jobs in the market right now.”

Meanwhile, India’s white-collar hiring just grew 14% year-on-year in August.

So apparently the jobs exist.

They’re just playing hide and seek.

According to the latest Naukri JobSpeak data, fresher hiring was up 15%, while hiring increased across every major experience band.

And this wasn't just another tech story.

Auto hiring: +19%
Healthcare: +16%
Retail: +15%
Insurance: +12%
IT: +11%
Banking & FMCG: +10%

Even geographically, the growth is interesting.

Hyderabad: +23%
Kolkata: +22%
Chennai: +20%

Yet open LinkedIn and you'll find two completely different realities.

Recruiters: “We can't find the right candidates.”

Candidates: “I applied to 147 jobs and received one automated rejection at 2:13 AM.”

Both can actually be true.

Because the problem increasingly isn't simply a shortage of jobs.

It's a mismatch between the roles companies are trying to fill and the profiles available to fill them.

A degree might make you eligible.

Experience might get your CV shortlisted.

But increasingly, employers are looking for a very specific combination of skills + domain knowledge + experience + proof that you can actually do the work.

And that changes the career question.

Instead of asking:

“Which industries are hiring?”

Maybe start asking:

“What are they hiring for — and does my profile actually match it?”

Because a growing job market doesn't automatically mean an easier job market.

Sometimes it just means there are more vacancies looking for fewer matching candidates.

For people actively job hunting right now: does the market actually feel like it’s improving?

When someone says “green jobs,” you probably imagine solar panels, wind turbines and one extremely enthusiastic person explaining composting.

Fair enough.

Except green jobs are quietly escaping the environmental science department and showing up pretty much everywhere.

Finance now needs people who understand sustainable finance and climate risk. Companies need people who can measure emissions, audit sustainability claims and figure out whether their “net-zero by 2040” slide has any connection whatsoever to reality.

Supply chains need sustainable procurement specialists. Manufacturers need people who understand energy efficiency and waste reduction. Businesses need sustainability analysts, ESG professionals, carbon accounting specialists and environmental compliance people.

And yes, engineers working in renewable energy and electric vehicles are growing too. The World Economic Forum puts environmental engineers and renewable-energy engineers among the fastest-growing roles expected through 2030.

But here's the interesting part: you don't necessarily need “Sustainability” written across your degree certificate in 72-point font.

Green skills are increasingly being added to normal jobs.

A finance professional who understands carbon accounting.

A supply-chain professional who understands sustainable procurement.

An operations manager who understands energy efficiency.

A data professional who can work with emissions and sustainability data.

Same profession. New layer of knowledge.

LinkedIn's data already shows green-skilled workers getting hired at a higher rate than the workforce overall.

So while everyone is currently speedrunning Python courses because somebody on Instagram said AI will replace them by Thursday, there is another labour-market shift happening rather quietly.

Apparently, saving the planet needed an Excel department too.

And it’s hiring.

AI is NOT your career counsellor.

And Google never was.

Today, choosing an MBA seems easier than ever.

Search “best MBA for me” on Google and you’ll find hundreds of colleges, rankings, reviews and comparisons.

Ask AI the same question and you’ll have a personalised shortlist in seconds.

But there’s one problem:

Information ≠ the right decision.

An MBA isn’t something you should choose purely because an algorithm ranked it #1.

Your work experience matters.
Your career goals matter.
Your budget matters.
Your available time matters.
And your long-term plans matter.

AI can analyse all of these.

But there’s still enormous value in talking to someone who understands the industry, challenges your assumptions and gives context to all that information.

That’s why I don’t think the future is:

AI vs Human.

I think it’s:

AI for information.
Human experience for context.
YOU for the final decision.

Technology shouldn't replace good career guidance.

It should make it better.
