I’m going to show you the easiest, laziest way to sew a zipper pocket that looks professional, even if you’re a beginner. Learning how to sew a zipper pocket doesn’t have to be stressful or time-consuming you just need the right steps, a little guidance, and the right tools.

Start by gathering your materials: two fabric pieces of equal size, a zipper slightly longer than your fabric, sewing machine, clips or pins, and an iron. First, prepare your pocket pieces and trim the zipper slightly longer for easier stitching. Next, attach the zipper to one pocket piece using a piping foot if you have one—it helps guide your stitching neatly along the zipper teeth. Repeat on the second pocket piece, then combine both pieces with right sides together, leaving the zipper slightly open so you can flip the pocket later.

After sewing around the edges, carefully turn your pocket right side out and press with an iron for a crisp finish. Topstitch the pocket onto your bag lining, and voila! You have a functional, polished zipper pocket.

Here are some tips to get the perfect pocket every time:
