In the month of Koiak, the ancient Egyptians celebrated the “Resurrection of Osiris,” with the gods Horus and Anubis taking part in the sacred rituals—referred to symbolically as a “pilgrimage.” This pilgrimage began in mid-Koiak, when devotees from across the land journeyed to Abydos, believed to be the burial site of Osiris’ head. They carried trees or purchased them from the holy city to plant around the shrine of the first martyr on Earth, as if the true purpose of the pilgrimage was to plant new life.
The pilgrims continued to care for their trees until the 28th of Koiak, when the ceremonies concluded with the raising of the Djed pillar, a symbol of stability and resurrection.
The Egyptians celebrated Osiris’ return to life by planting a large tree in the center of the temple square, placed by the priests themselves—alongside the trees planted by pilgrims—in hope that the lives of their loved ones might continue with Osiris in the afterlife.

There was no system of “concubinage” in Egypt since the dawn of history, and this term never appeared in any papyrus, relief, or statue in Egyptian civilization. Women in Egypt were influential figures, foundational to society, and supportive of both family and men. They were queens, military leaders, ministers, rulers, and strong partners in the household. This is why Egyptian statues often depict wives standing beside their husbands, embracing them from behind, and placing a hand on theirs—a symbol of equality, care, and support.
The enslavement of women, female infanticide, and concubinage were practices that existed among the pagan, barbaric tribes of Asia, stretching from China to the Levant, including the Arabian Peninsula. The Egyptian people, however, have always been free and dignified, valuing individuals—whether men or women—based on their intellect and contributions rather than their physical attributes.
