This Ottoman style Oud album always been on oud enthusiast playlists, and I've listened to it on and off over the years, but today it hits differently.

There's something timeless about the playing style that sometimes makes me feel like I'm listening to Egyptian oudist or an old Persian tar recording.

There is something different about these players of old. The intonation sits differently to me. These guys just let their phrases flow.

What do you think? Have us modern oudists lost the script?

During vacation I discovered a Korean instrument called Geomungo and I was blown away by the technique, sound and how similar it is to oud in a few ways...
The blend of melody and percussiveness...
The way they hold a stick in a similar manner to how an oud risha is held...
So I recorded an improvisation in the mode of Abu-Ata with inspiration from the Geomungo. The second track is an old reng in Abu-Ata. Rent is an improvised or composed "dance" tune.
It drops July 5th on your favorite platform.
