PSA JNU Stands in Solidarity with the Protesting Students of Panjab University.
A PSA delegation visited Panjab University, Chandigarh, to express solidarity with students protesting against the dilution of the University Senate.
For ten days, PU students have been resisting the central government’s attempt to shrink the elected Senate from 91 to 31 members, a move that abolishes the graduate constituency and hands over decision-making powers to the Vice-Chancellor and Chancellor. This attack aims to dismantle democratic functioning and the federal structure of higher education, aligning with NEP 2020’s agenda of centralization and corporatization.
Following intense student resistance, the government was forced to withdraw the November 1 notification, but elections have still not been announced. The administration continues to repress the movement with police deployment and campus restrictions.
PSA salutes the courage of PU students and reaffirms its commitment to the collective struggle for democratic and public education. We call upon students across the country to stand in solidarity with Panjab University’s movement.
