I kinda wanna start a series where I reimagine how the Pokémon battle themes should’ve sounded not by changing their style, but by improving what’s already there. I’m not talking about turning them into techno, hardstyle, or any of that wild stuff you hear nowadays. I mean keeping that classic Pokémon DNA, just giving it the energy, power, and sound it truly deserves.
Take the jazz arrangement of the X/Y wild battle theme in Legends ZA. It sounds super cool and well made… but do you really wanna hear smooth jazz while fighting Pokémon? Let’s be honest.
Think of it like the original X/Y battle themes, but reimagined with a better mix and that real, intense battle feel.
What do you guys think? Should I actually make this series?
I’m just gonna say it straight up, modern Pokémon battle music has completely lost its soul. It doesn’t sound like Pokémon anymore. It’s wild how the franchise went from having one of the most iconic and instantly recognizable sound identities in gaming… to whatever this generic, soulless, garbage stuff is now. It all started around Pokémon Sword & Shield I believe. That game was the doom of the Pokémon industry.
Back in the day, Pokémon music had character. You could hear two seconds of a battle theme and immediately know it was Pokémon because the melodies, the energy and the instrumentation all carried this distinct Pokémon DNA. Now it just sounds like random cinematic background music that could fit into any modern game or Netflix anime.
Tracks like “Battle! vs Jacinthe” or “Battle! vs Canari” from Legends ZA literally make me forget I’m even listening to Pokémon. What in the actual fuck am I listening to? Compare that to any fucking battle theme from gem 1 all the way up to gen 6. Is this what people want nowadays, just a random modern mix of nothing or did people just forget how good Pokémon music was back then?
And you can feel the difference since Junichi Masuda stopped composing like before. The man was the backbone of that classic Pokémon sound, his melodic instincts and composition style were a massive part of what gave the series its musical identity. I remember when I defended the guy for the longest time and people said his stuff was "generic" and "basic". Sure, I guess Cynthia battle theme was basic, Hoenn Elite Four battle, Kanto Champion Battle, Johto Trainer battle, all of them are basic right...? Now he barely writes music anymore and it shows. Pokémon music used to tell a story even without words. Now it just fills space.
As someone who’s been remixing and composing Pokémon music for years, this honestly kills my motivation. I used to get hyped opening a new game just to hear the new battle theme and think, “Damn, I can’t wait to remix this.” Now I hear these tracks and feel… nothing. It’s just empty. Technically fine, emotionally dead.
Pokémon used to have soul now it has generic sound and those are two very different things. I'm still optimistic for this franchise, but they have to start changing up things and put actual passion into it.

I am thinking about returning to this channel with different kinds of videos. It will not be music-related only (I will still upload remixes as usual here and there), but the type of content I am talking about is more entertainment-focused, like: ranking music from different regions or Pokémon games, or talking about Pokémon music in general and making entertaining videos with edits and all that. Everything will be with a face cam and high-quality satisfying edits! I will also do Pokémon card pack openings (like the new Prismatic Evolutions Box sets which are so hard to buy thanks to scalpers unfortunately)
I haven't been active on this channel for a very long time, but what do you think of this decision? Would you watch it?
Like I said, I will still upload music here, that will never change, so don't worry about that. I am just wondering if any of you would watch content like this. I think this will be my first time showing my face on here too? I don't remember anymore actually. But yeah, let me know my friends!
